    As part of our employee engagement programs, the Culture in Action committee organized a Chili Cook-off contest for the month of October. Several employees participated with their unique take on Chili and showing off their cooking skills! Each participant was asked to have a creative name for their dish. 3 winners were named for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places and 1 for the catchiest name! Thank you to all who helped with organizing, for those who participated and congratulations to the winners.     VIRTUAL EVENT! Mixed Media Illustration & Book Art Techniques with Faber-Castell Pencils & Pens Thursday October 17 @ 1pm ET Join Franz Spohn as he shows us how to use mixed media drawings to create a chapbook, an astonishingly easy, age-old, eight paged booklet, made from a single sheet of paper. First, Franz will guide us through an exploration of the materials – Faber-Castell’s Albrecht Durer Watercolor Pencils and Markers, Polychromos Colored Pencils, and Pitt Artist Pens on Legion Paper’s Somerset Book art paper. Some of the techniques we will explore include color blending/layering, using value and intensity of color, variety of approaches to using watercolor as a stand-alone element, as well as combinations of mixed media, and various ways to hold a pencil and varying pressures to attain desired effect. After experimenting with these materials, participants will fold and cut an additional piece of paper to create the chapbook structure and proceed to draw eight images on the paper to create the finished book. You won’t want to miss this session, chock full of whimsy, fun and information!
