Last month, Henrico CASA had the privilege of welcoming and hosting the Family and Children's Trust Fund of Virginia Board. Thank you to Season Roberts and Nicole Poulin for giving us the opportunity to have a meaningful discussion on the vital role CASA plays in advocating for children and families across Virginia. We were proud to share how our partnership with the Commonwealth’s juvenile court judges ensures that the voices of vulnerable children are heard and their needs prioritized. Today is the start of Virginia's 2024 General Assembly session. With a new building, multiple newly-elected legislators, and a new two-year state budget, we wanted to help educate Virginians on two potential funding deficits impacting human services this year and beyond. Many of the human services programs established in Virginia to support families and children face critical funding shortages due to changes in allocations of federal funds which have provide foundational, operation costs for these services for over a decade. If replacement funding is not found, many critical programs will be forced to shut their doors to Virginia’s most vulnerable families. There will likely be many discussions about funding priorities during the General Assembly session. FACT has put together an educational overview on the potential funding deficits human service organizations in Virginia face with changes to Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA). https://lnkd.in/dV-pq-ZH
