Our vision is a world where every child can grow up in a safe and caring family.
About us
Family for Every Child is dedicated to a vision of a world where every child can grow up in a permanent, safe and caring family, supported by temporary, quality alternative care where needed. Fundamentally, we are driven by three strategic goals: 🌐 Enabling children to grow up in permanent, safe and caring families, and 🌐 Ensuring a range of high-quality alternative care choices 🌐 Taking steps to prevent children from having to live outside of any adult care, without the care of families or other carers, and in the interim protecting these boys and girls We are an alliance of national member organisations (local civil society organisations) which has grown to a network of now over 47 members in 38 countries around the world. Family for Every Child was developed to demonstrate a different way of doing international collaboration. It is premised on the importance of diverse and contextually informed knowledge from all parts of the globe being given equal value internationally. Although our members all grow independently, they are connected by a shared “root” system, tended to by a small team of Family for Every Child staff (the Secretariat). This makes each member more effective, and the network as a whole more resilient, because together, we’re more than the sum of our parts. We believe in collective leadership and working horizontally bringing together our member organisations, our Secretariat and our Boards. We are committed to becoming a model of ways of working that starts to decolonise the sector. We are determined to improve as an Alliance on this journey. Ours is a “future focused” model that will facilitate growth, change and impact in a sustainable way. We connect online, and have no physical offices. The majority of our governing body of trustees that forms the international Family for Every Child Board are members themselves.

📍Aotearoa, New Zealand 🇳🇿 We’re helping to steer the ship for change! As a global alliance, we put A LOT of emphasis on the importance of giving a voice to those with lived experience – especially when it comes to shaping and improving broken systems that do not serve vulnerable children and young people. In New Zealand, we are honoured to be a part of the Children’s Rights Alliance (CRAANZ), where we work together with a number of local organisations who are committed to ensuring that children’s rights are honoured and real or young people in Aotearoa. Now, Tupua Ulrich (VOYCE - Whakarongo Mai) and our very own Michelle Egan-Bitran (Family’s Movement Building Advisor), are officially part of the CRAANZ Steering Committee, alongside some of New Zealand’s most impactful changemakers for children. This means that the Steering Committee is strengthened with Tupua, a leader and expert with lived experience of the broken care system to call for change. We look forward to building this movement with the alliance as we continue our work to push for a better care system! 📸 image taken at the recent #CRAANZ AGM, left to right, Leon Tan, Sonja Cooper, Jess Smith (Cooper Legal) and Tupua Urlich (VOYCE) Find out more about CRAANZ here: https://buff.ly/3Udg83h #CareReform #CallForChange #RoyalEnquiryIntoAbuseInCare #ChangemakersForChildren

Around the globe, thousands of grandparents have had to take on the #KinshipCare of their grandchildren. We talked to families all over the world – including Australia and New Zealand – to gather insights and examples. In Australia, families expressed the need for better financial support. In New Zealand, a charity called Grandparents Raising Grandchildren is dedicated solely to supporting these types of Kinship Care families… …because there are more of them than you’d think, and they need support to be able to provide the best care. #GlobalKinshipCareWeek aims to raise awareness of all Kinship Care families. 💬 taken from Family For Every Child’s Global Kinship Care Guidance. #KinshipCare #SupportKinshipCare #FamilyForEveryChild #GlobalCampaign #ChangemakersForChildren #TogetherForChange #CallToAction #CallForChange

#GlobalKinshipCareWeek is being observed around the globe, and we're thrilled to hear about the different events and individual campaigns that our members have been pulling together to raise awareness for #KinshipCare, and why it needs to be recognised and better supported. In 📍 Liberia 🇱🇷 , our member organisation Children Assistance Programme have been gathering to observe and celebrate #GlobalKinshipCareWeek, to educate their community on kinship care, and to share ways in which #KinshipCare can be better supported.
