About us
For 34 years, the Family Giving Tree has been uplifting Bay Area families who face financial hardship by supporting them with school supply-filled backpacks and wished-for holiday gifts. What started as a San Jose State MBA project to help in-need children has grown steadily into an established, widely respected, nonprofit organization. Since its start in 1990, Family Giving Tree has served over 2,000,000 children and adults throughout the greater Bay Area. We dream of inspiring the values of kindness, philanthropy, and volunteerism to impact our community. With the invaluable support of our donors, sponsors, volunteers and drive leaders, Family Giving Tree leads two major drives each year. The Holiday Wish Drive fulfills children’s exact holiday gift wishes, and Back-to-School Drive provides backpacks filled with school supplies to K-12 children most in need.

On Tuesday, Technology Credit Union (Tech CU) and FGT got together and revealed the new wrapping of our truck and van which is generously sponsored by Tech CU for the next 3 years! 🚚 We are so excited with the new look of our vehicles that will transport donations for families throughout the Bay Area. The 2024 Back-To-School Drive was a blast! 🎉 With thousands of backpacks distributed, we were able to empower 28,000 students with school essentials this year. 🏫 That's an amazing feat we were able to accomplish together. It’s #BackToSchool season again and we were incredibly proud to partner with Family Giving Tree for our annual backpack stuffing and donation drive! 🎒 📓 ✏️ Team members from across our Sunnyvale campus united to gather supplies for local classrooms. Alation HQ was full of smiles last week for "Bring Your Kids to Work" day! 👧 👦 🧒 Activities in Redwood City included an office tour, scavenger hunt, games, coloring, and of course, snack time! Thank you, Julianna Rose, for leading Fogarty Innovation's first formal volunteer effort; a back-to-school drive with Family Giving Tree to collect and distribute backpacks filled with school supplies to students whose families struggle to provide these essentials. Our goal was to donate 75 backpacks and fill 50 with school supplies; under Julie's leadership we collected 109 backpacks and filled 66. This complex endeavor required detailed organization, consistent cheerleading, and much herding of cats. Thank you, Julie, for making this happen! #rockstar #givingback

Once again, the Bionova team came together to deliver for our local community! As part of the Family Giving Tree Back-to-School drive, we equipped backbacks for 44 Bay Area school children thanks to generous contributions of time, labor, money and supplies by our colleagues. Thanks to these efforts, 44 young students will start the school year on the right foot, a big step toward closing the educational equity gap.
