In 2022, FasterCures published a report titled "The Current Landscape of the Science of Patient Input", which examined the progress of patient engagement (PE) in biomedical research and identified ways to overcome ongoing challenges. Building on this, we have applied the report’s insights and recommendations to the context of medical device, diagnostic, and digital health (known collectively as “medtech”) product development. While patient engagement has grown in pharmaceutical R&D, it still lags across the medical device product life cycle despite the opportunities that exist. In our latest report, "Defining and Demonstrating the Value of Patient Engagement in Medtech Research and Product Development," we explore the obstacles, opportunities, and recommendations to drive more effective patient engagement in medtech. Recommendations include: 1. Crafting a framework to define and demonstrate the value and impact of patient engagement for the diverse range of medtech product developers more clearly. 2. Developing a patient engagement toolkit for medtech companies that curates existing tools and resources, and creates new ones to fill identified gaps. 3. Adapting resources created for drug development and human-centered design contexts. 4. Building the capacity of the medtech ecosystem to support more PE. 5. Requesting that regulators and payers provide more clarity and examples of the impact of patient engagement on their decision-making. 6. Addressing legal and compliance challenges. 7. Identifying and addressing misalignments in requirements and processes. Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dqf-9VHk #medtech #patientengagement
