⭐ Celebrating Indigenous Peoples' Day ⭐ Today, take the time to reflect on the rich cultures, deep histories, and continued contributions of Indigenous peoples in our community and beyond. This day stands as a reminder of the resilience, strength, and enduring presence of Native communities who have long been the stewards of this land. Here’s 3 ways you can observe this important day: 1. Educate Yourself – Learn about Indigenous history and the impact of residential schools. Read books, watch documentaries, or attend events focused on Truth and Reconciliation. 2. Support Indigenous-Led Organizations – Donate, volunteer, or support Indigenous businesses to amplify their voices and foster healing. 3. Wear Orange – Show solidarity with survivors by wearing orange, inspired by Phyllis Webstad’s story, as a symbol of commitment to truth and reconciliation. We recognize the importance of Indigenous voices in shaping our collective future. Continue the journey of learning, unlearning, and uplifting the diverse communities that have made—and continue to make—an invaluable impact. #indigenouspeoplesday #honornativecommunities #strengthinheritage #communityfoundation #everychildmatters #truthandreconciliation #indigenoushistory #amplifyindigenousvoices #supportindigenouscommunities #standforsolidarity

Do you know… According to the Community Wellbeing Index 2023, concerns for mental health and rates of suicide increased during the COVID-19 pandemic, as many people in Fairfield County and beyond struggled with the effects of social isolation, job loss, and other hardships. Between February 2020 and the end of 2021, about 1 in 4 Connecticut adults lost their jobs, while 1 in 5 reported that either they or a member of their household were consuming alcohol more frequently. Sadly, 18% of adults experienced the loss of a close friend or family member due to COVID-19. For those facing challenges such as food and transportation insecurity, unemployment, and a lack of timely medical care, the impact on mental health was even more severe. These hardships led to higher rates of depression and much lower levels of personal well-being in our community. On this World Mental Health Day, it’s important to reflect on how our community has been affected and to continue raising awareness and support for those facing mental health challenges. Understanding the well-being of Fairfield County is essential to fostering a healthier, more supportive environment.
