This October, we at Feast & Fettle are proud to partner with The Ellie Fund to provide vital support for patients living with breast cancer. For every Feast & Fettle order placed, we will donate $1 to The Ellie Fund to help deliver the financial, physical, and emotional care needed. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference. Your support helps provide essential resources and wellness programs for those facing this challenging journey. We believe that food is a powerful source of comfort and healing. Each meal we create is made with real ingredients and crafted with love. Here's a fact that surprises most people I talk to: most of our audience on YouTube are over the age of 45. In fact often our largest audience segment in a given month is 65+. When I tell people I oversee the New Statesman's YouTube channel, nearly everyone makes a similar comment - something along the lines of "it must be good for reaching a younger audience". There is a very common assumption that audiences on YouTube are young, and that to succeed on the platform you must create content that appeals to "the kids". This is to misunderstand YouTube. It's a fully mature platform, is incredibly easy to use, and is available on all your devices including most TVs. In fact, according to BARB, TVs were the second most-used device for YouTube viewing in 2023 (34% vs mobile 37%), and could overtake mobile to become the primary way people view Youtube in the UK this year. (https://lnkd.in/eAcjhWxE) Everyone knows YouTube, anyone can use it, and it has a critical mass of content covering literally any subject you can think of. It's also to misunderstand the audience. Social media, and the internet in general, is no longer the preserve of the young. Yes, certain platforms trend higher among particular age groups, but the millennials who grew up with early Facebook and YouTube are now adults, and YouTube's age and ubiquity mean the 'early adoption' phase is ancient history. Also, who has time to lose down a YouTube rabbit hole? Those without a busy job and family life: kids... and retirees. Finally the view that success on YouTube means appealing to the young misunderstands the YouTube algorithm. The recommendations engine that drives YouTube is incredibly powerful, and exists solely to serve users with content that they will enjoy so they spend longer on the platform. If there is one 65+ user that enjoys one of our videos, it's likely YouTube will also show that video to multiple other users matching their profile. There are enough 65+ users on the platform for this to make for large viewing figures pretty quickly. So, if you're thinking about starting a YouTube channel - or perhaps moving your podcast to YouTube (which I would strongly recommend) - but are concerned about changing your style to appeal to "the kids", be encouraged. There's an audience in every demographic. You just need to make the best content that appeals to your audience, and give YouTube the information it needs to understand what your content is and who it's for. If you don't know how to do that - drop me a line and I'll see if I can help.

One thing I love to do is spotlight Recovery Friendly Workplace members. Feast & Fettle is one of the first businesses I worked with when I started as Program Director. I feel blessed it was because Fernanda (featured here) was so open and enthusiastic about the initiative, I felt I was doing the work I was meant to do. For that reason, I'm pleased to have Feast & Fettle be our first "Spotlight" feature. By the way, if you've never tried their food? Amazing!!!! Don't tell Fernanda, but I make up excuses to drop by knowing I might escape with a muffin or scone. #RecoveryFriendlyWorkplace #Recovery #RhodeIsland #Workplace #MentalHealth

🫠 Failure Fridays 🫠 We shut down our retail location in Cambridge 👋… and we did it fast 💨 Why? We realized a few things: 1️⃣ We poured too much focus and too many resources into retail 2️⃣ To excel in retail, we’d need to change our core approach and DNA 3️⃣ We’re a fantastic (and profitable) D2C business with plenty of growth ahead So why did we try retail? Because experimenting is part of who we are…. This isn’t our first failure, and it won’t be our last… Staying creative and finding new opportunities means NOT being shy about failure. When we take a swing, we aim for home runs…and when we strike out, we learn, adapt, and move on. Cheers to more swings and more lessons learned… (we love you #Cambridge , we’ll just bring it to your door 🚪 😂)
