This week, Acting Federal Highway Administrator Kristin White traveled to Tennessee and North Carolina as part of the U.S. Department of Transportation ongoing response to Hurricane Helene. During her visit, she assessed storm damage, thanked volunteers, and connected with those affected by the storm. FHWA is committed to expediting recovery efforts, working hand-in-hand with Tennessee Department of Transportation, North Carolina Department Of Transportation, and local partners to address the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. As we continue these efforts, U.S. DOT is closely monitoring Hurricane Milton. The whole-of-federal-government stands ready to support impacted communities, and preparedness efforts are underway in collaboration with state and local partners. Bill Lee yesterday and other state and local officials to ensure Hurricane Helene coordination across the state following the I-40 and I-26 washout. We know that these interstates are critical links for recovery efforts, residents, trucks and other freight traffic traveling throughout the southeast. FHWA Acting Administrator Kristin White is in Tennessee, where she received a firsthand briefing from Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner Butch Eley and other state officials on the ongoing recovery efforts following Hurricane #Helene. The visit highlights our partnership and dedication to restoring critical transportation infrastructure impacted by the storm. FHWA is working closely with TDOT and other partners to expedite the repair and recovery process, leveraging the FHWA Emergency Relief Program, speeding up decision-making, and supporting fast-moving delivery methods, ensuring long-term resilience for roads and bridges. Over the weekend, FHWA announced the release of $32 million to Tennessee providing immediate financial support to recovery efforts in the state.
