Meet Sarah Panaligan— IT Engineering Manager and professional concert pianist. Sarah attended a musical conservatory for college to study classical piano, where she was able to fine tune her ability to play by ear and learn how to read melodies and bass lines. She developed a keen eye and quick ability to adapt, and it’s a daily goal of hers to bring a musician’s level of detail into the work she does with her colleagues at the Bank. Sarah is appreciative of her experience as a professional concert pianist because it gave her the opportunity to build a more collaborative workstyle. Thank you, Sarah, for sharing your story! #LifeatFHLBC #FHLBankChicago #EmployeesintheSpotlight

We’re proud to support Sweetbean Cafe & Bakery with a $15,000 Community First® Accelerate Grant, in partnership with our member, Holcomb Bank. The café plans to use the funds to invest in essential equipment as they continue to grow and serve the Byron, Illinois community. Don’t miss out! Applications for Accelerate Grants close in one week, on September 30: https://lnkd.in/d5XBbP3N
Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago (FHLBank Chicago) awarded Sweetbean Cafe & Bakery a grant of $15,000 through its Community First Accelerate Grants for Small Business program through partnership with Holcomb Bank. Since 2016 when Sweetbean Cafe & Bakery opened, Melinda Hellyer & her family have provided a trusted family business for the small town of Byron, IL. Many locals bring their family/friends/co-workers to Sweetbean because of the professional, knowledgeable and welcoming customer service from not only Melinda, but also from her employees. Sweetbean is dedicated to delivering the best experience for their customers by providing fresh, homemade food & coffee in a friendly environment where customers are warmly welcomed when they visit. In 2020 Sweetbean Café & Bakery moved to their current location which now provides them a greater space for both business operations and customer service. However, as the business has grown so have the equipment needs. Melinda plans to use the grant funds to purchase a much-needed walk-in cooler to store more product and also create more service space to setup an additional espresso machine. Accelerate Grants assist the growth and development of small businesses in Illinois and Wisconsin, creating economic opportunity in the communities FHLBank Chicago members serve. Through its member institutions, FHLBank Chicago offers grants of up to $30,000 to eligible small businesses. #WhereRelationshipsMatter
