About us
Established in 2004, Feeding New York State, then named Food Bank Association of New York State, was developed to provide advocacy and fundraising support to the NYS regional food banks. Rebranded in 2019 as Feeding New York State, we support the ten regional food banks across the state. We provide programs, services and connections for: Farmers & food processors: Through the Nourish New York initiative and Statewide Sourcing Program, farmers and food processors can help supply NY food banks and receive fair compensation for their efforts. Feeding New York State has staff dedicated to helping you take full advantage of these programs. Hunters: In partnership with the Venison Coalition, we help to connect deer hunters to registered meat processors to make donating venison easy and efficient. The venison from donated deer is processed and distributed to food pantries across the state. Helping with food resources: FNYS sources wholesome food items for our member food banks to use in their communities, we work with state and national vendors & donors to secure food and funds and we are a resource for individuals and families looking for food assistance.

Together in Action: Supporting Our Communities This morning, we're filled with gratitude as we highlight our incredible partnership with United Apple Sales. In response to the devastating hurricanes that have impacted Florida and surrounding areas, we are proud to have played a key role in supplying 38,000 pounds of fresh apples from our dedicated apple growers to assist the Southeast Regional Cooperative (SERC) during this challenging time. United Apple has generously distributed these apples to regional food banks in the Southeast, demonstrating their commitment to helping those in need. At FNYS, we are passionate about connecting local farmers with communities in need, and this partnership showcases our commitment to providing nourishing food during critical times. Thank you to everyone involved for your unwavering support and dedication to making a difference! #Partnership #FoodBank #CommunitySupport #HungerRelief #FeedingNY #UnitedAppleSales #SupportLocal

Team Spotlight: Jay Hawkins, Director of Food Recovery Programs Meet Jay Hawkins, our Director of Food Recovery Programs! Jay works closely with food industry stakeholders across the state, to get excess food to the almost 3 million food insecure neighbors in need. His expertise in partnering donors with our member food banks resulted in 32 million pounds of high quality, perfectly good food being recovered and diverted from landfills since the inception of the program. Due to his dedication, we’re able to get nutritious food to those who need it most. In his free time, Jay enjoys coaching basketball, traveling, volunteering at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and spending time with his family. Thank you, Jay, for your tireless work feeding New Yorkers! #dontchuckittruckit

Motivational Monday Get Out The Vote! "Once we start to act, hope is everywhere. So instead of looking for hope, look for action. Then, and only then, hope will come." – Greta Thunberg This powerful quote, a favorite of Ryan Healy from our team, reminds us that real change starts with action. Get Out The Vote is a national effort aimed at encouraging every eligible citizen to make their voice heard by participating in elections. Voting is one of the most important actions we can take to shape the future of our communities and our country. By voting, you're not just hoping for change—you’re making it happen. Don’t wait for hope to find you. Get out, take action, and vote! Your voice can make a difference. #GetOutTheVote #ActForChange #FuelHope #YourVoteMatters

Motivational Monday “One of the secrets of life is that all that is really worth doing is what we do for others.” – Lewis Carroll This quote, a favorite of our own Elizabeth Barlow, reminds us that the most meaningful acts are those that lift others up. Whether providing food, support, or simply compassion, every effort we make helps build stronger, healthier communities. During Hunger Action Month, we reflect on the importance of working together to ensure that no one goes hungry. At Feeding New York State, we’re committed to this shared purpose—because helping others is at the heart of everything we do. #MotivationalMonday #HungerActionMonth #TogetherWeCan

*Behind the Scenes – Meet the FNYS Team Member* Meet Kathleen Stress, our favorite “Dairy Queen” and Research Director! Kathleen has been in food banking for 17 years and joined FNYS in 2020. She crafts the funding submissions that have helped secure over $6 million to support our members. When she’s not busy supporting our food banks, Kathleen puts her passion to work fostering dogs through Seventh Heaven Rescue. Known as our very own “female Cesar Millan,” she takes pride in teaching her foster pups how to “dog” like champs. In her downtime, you’ll find her enjoying family, crafting a cocktail or gardening. We’re so lucky to have her on our team!

*Motivational Monday* “To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart.” – Eleanor Roosevelt This favorite quote of our own Kathleen Stress reminds us of the balance between thoughtful action and compassion. During Hunger Action Month, it’s a reminder that solving food insecurity takes both strategy and heart. We must be smart in how we tackle hunger, but at the core of it all is a deep care for our neighbors in need. As we continue to support food banks and work towards a hunger-free New York, let’s remember to lead with both our heads and hearts. #MotivationalMonday #HungerActionMonth #bettertogether #TogetherWeCanEndHunger

Hunger Action Month: Keep Pushing Forward As we take action against hunger this month, we’re inspired by a favorite quote from Jay Hawkins, Director of Food Recovery Programs: “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” – Thomas Edison This Hunger Action Month, let’s remember that every effort counts. From rescuing food from retailers to advocating for policy change, every action brings us one step closer to ending hunger in New York State. Together, we can push through challenges and make a real impact. Don’t give up—we’re closer than we think! #hungeractionmonth #togetherwecanendhunger
