If a fraud solution provider is boasting about their latency numbers, be cautious—it’s easy to be misled. Latency is simply the time it takes to complete a task. It can be measured in two ways: average latency and percentile latency. Average latency is straightforward, but percentile latency is more revealing. Even a few slow transactions can drastically skew the results, as Feedzai's Chief Science Officer Pedro Bizarro points out. For example, in a system processing 100 million transactions, 99.95% might have a latency of 20 milliseconds, but if 0.05% spike to 500 milliseconds for just 50 seconds, the average barely changes, while the 99.95% percentile jumps to 500 milliseconds. This shows how even brief slowdowns can significantly affect metrics, making percentile latency a better indicator of system quality. Also, consider what type of latency is being measured—server, network? To truly evaluate performance, you need to look at both percentile latency and communication costs. #fraudprevention #riskmanagement #computerscience

News today suggests that the PSR will reduce the maximum limit on APP fraud reimbursement from £415k to £85k, bringing it in line with the current FSCS protection limit. From a data perspective, this means that the new cap will still see > 99% of claims covered (by volume). However those claims that exceed £85k may not be fully reimbursed. The PSR states that this new proposal “strikes a balance between strong consumer protections, incentivising firms to implement robust anti-fraud measures, while maintaining market competition and innovation”. Of course there is nothing preventing banks from reimbursing higher value scams voluntarily, it just wouldn't be mandated under this process. It will also be interesting to see where FOS positions itself on higher value claims as cases are undoubtedly escalated. Finally, the PSR were keen to stress that the implementation date of October 7th is not impacted as a result of this proposal. https://lnkd.in/ge3-NQh4

Cash flow is critical for many businesses! When merchants can’t easily access their funds, they struggle to pay vendors, employees, utility bills, and other essential expenses. That’s where acquiring banks come into play, playing a pivotal role in ensuring a smooth cash flow. But there’s a delicate balance. While acquirers want to keep merchants happy and quickly approve payouts, they risk heavy losses if a merchant’s risk profile suddenly changes. Feezdai’s Tiffany Ha outlines why Dynamic Risk Assessment keeps acquirers safe from risky merchants while helping businesses keep their lights on and their doors open. #Business #RiskManagement #RiskAssessment #Fraud #FraudPrevention https://hubs.la/Q02MxfHp0
