When the members of a board of directors fail to exercise their responsibility to oversee the CEO, the consequences can be catastrophic. Many argue this was the case with Harvey Weinstein and, more recently, former Abercrombie CEO Mike Jeffries. This is a critical part of the conversation on how to end this type of abuse – one I’m interested in continuing. Read my thoughts here, and please share yours:

FeganScott’s fight to hold Ford accountable for selling defective Super Duty trucks and putting drivers and their passengers at risk continues! Last month, a Michigan federal judge handed a significant victory to the consumers we represent in our class action lawsuit against Ford. The lawsuit alleges that the leading automaker knowingly sold more than five million trucks with a roof defect. As a next step, our firm and co-counsel will seek class certification. If granted, the case would represent Super Duty truck owners nationwide who have been negatively impacted by Ford’s actions related to the roof defect. If you own a 1999-2016 model year Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, or F-550, contact our firm today to learn more about your legal options: https://lnkd.in/dRf59pk

As abuse allegations against music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs continue to surface, FeganScott stands in solidarity with survivors and commends them for their bravery in coming forward. No individual is above the law, no matter their status or influence. Diddy must be held accountable for his abhorrent behavior, and justice must be pursued for those he harmed and whose lives he irrevocably scarred. The National Jewish Advocacy Center (NJAC) and the Coalition Against Antisemitism at Northwestern (CAAN) filed an amicus brief to support students who have taken legal action against Northwestern University for Title VI violations stemming from the university’s failure to address antisemitic behavior on campus. Harvey Weinstein reported to a board of directors when he sat atop The Weinstein Company. So did former Abercrombie CEO Mike Jeffries. Boards of directors have an obligation to provide oversight of CEOs, yet both men have been accused – and, in Weinstein’s case, convicted – of horrendous sex crimes. Why did these boards fail in their role? FeganScott Managing Partner Elizabeth Fegan provides her thoughts in a recent article from The New York Times about the case involving Jeffries: https://lnkd.in/dwviEGFE

Exciting news for Hyundai and Kia owners: A federal court judge in California granted final approval of a class action settlement that will deliver more than $200 million in relief to consumers affected by Hyundai and Kia’s failure to install an industry-standard anti-theft component in more than 9 million vehicles. This settlement is the culmination of years of work to address the defect issue involving missing engine immobilizers, which caused significant spikes in Hyundai and Kia thefts nationwide and posed serious safety concerns for drivers and bystanders. Affected Hyundai and Kia owners who have yet to submit a claim can do so until March 30, 2025. To learn more about the settlement agreement and to submit a claim, Hyundai owners are encouraged to visit https://lnkd.in/gXWB3GnX, and Kia class members are encouraged to visit www.kiatheftsettlement.com.

FeganScott has launched an investigation into MoneyGram following confirmation from the financial services provider that an unauthorized third party illegally obtained customers’ personal and financial information during a September cyberattack. In a recent statement, MoneyGram reported that the stolen customer information includes Social Security numbers, government identification documents, bank account numbers, and transaction information, among other data. The company has disclosed that the cyberattack occurred between September 20 and 22, 2024 but has refused to tell consumers the scope of the attack. MoneyGram customers are urged to contact our firm to learn more about their rights: https://lnkd.in/gJvb_Si3

Two federal judges recently sided with Jewish students who filed cases against Harvard University and UCLA, forcing the universities to address claims that their leadership failed to protect students from antisemitism on campus. These lawsuits are two of many accusing major universities of allowing antisemitic harassment, which includes our firm’s case against Northwestern University. You can read more about our suit here: https://lnkd.in/ghzwMw8d Learn more about the ruling against Harvard University here: https://lnkd.in/gXrVyhD2 And the ruling against UCLA here: https://lnkd.in/gSfq-net
