As we wrap up Latinx Heritage Month 2024, take a look at what our Latinx Employee Resource Group, Pa'Lante, has been up to in celebrating the contributions of Latinx people in history, food, art and culture in society. We embarked on a virtual museum tour, hosted by the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA | Museum of Latin American Art) to learn more about a key selection of artworks by Afro-Latinx artists, honoring African heritage and its influence in Latin America. During our monthly Pa’Lante meeting, we explored the gastronomy and cuisine of various Latin American countries, sharing our own experiences connecting with culture through food. As part of a weekly learning series, we spotlighted various historical figures like Dr. Ellen Ochoa, the first Latina in the world to go to space and shared lesser known facts about music and culture. On World Mental Health Day, Latina multidisciplinary healing practitioner Natalie Valle led a wellness workshop consisting of breathwork, mindful movements and a meditation to promote healthy mental health habits that staff can take with them. To keep the momentum going, Pa’Lante members received a branded mug in the mail to enjoy their hot drink of choice and all staff at Fenton were invited to celebrate with custom Zoom backgrounds all month long!
