Accelerating the adoption of bidirectional energy technology solutions with our innovative V2X platform and expertise.

About us

Fermata Energy is a leading platform services provider of intelligent Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) bidirectional charging technology, including Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Building (V2B) solutions. The company was founded in 2010 to accelerate the adoption of bidirectional energy technology solutions through inspiration and innovation. Fermata Energy’s proprietary technology enables its customers to manage EVs as Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) by selling excess energy stored in parked EV batteries to offset costly peak demand charges. In order for the world to achieve a global renewable energy ecosystem within this generation, abundant energy storage must be deployed quickly and at scale. Fermata Energy’s proprietary V2X platform and next-generation bidirectional FE-20 EV charger enables users to discharge stored battery energy in parked EVs back to the grid or a building, transforming EVs into energy storage resources. Fermata Energy is a 2024 Fast Company World Changing Ideas Award Honoree and a 2023 Inc. Best in Business Award Honoree.

  • New report published by Fermata Energy, in collaboration with WattTime, reveals how bidirectional V2X charging can turn EVs into a net carbon sink 🌎🚗⚡️♻️ We explore how V2X charging can cut CO₂ further than standard EVs by strategically charging and discharging EV batteries. EVs are crucial for decarbonizing transportation, and V2X technology can further optimize their impact by integrating them with the grid in a way that maximizes renewable energy use and minimizes emissions. But today, V2X is typically optimized for financial savings only — not emissions. Since electricity prices and marginal carbon intensity don’t always align, smarter policies and incentives should take advantage of readily available marginal carbon signals to unlock the full climate potential of V2X. • "2025 may be the year we see more widespread adoption of EVs for bidirectional charging by both consumers and fleet owners," this CNET article predicts: https://lnkd.in/gAS3GjbV Fermata Energy’s Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) bidirectional charging technologies turn electric vehicles (EVs) into distributed storage resources while parked, enabling EV owners to earn money while supporting the transition to sustainable, affordable electric transportation and to a renewable and resilient grid. We have successfully deployed our V2X solutions across the US and delivered thousands of dollars of revenue and/or savings per EV a year to EV owners, fleets, and property owners. Check out the article or contact the Fermata Energy team to learn more about how V2X "could change the game for fleet owners." 🚗 🔌 ⚡ #V2G #V2X #BidirectionalCharging #ElectricVehicles #EVs #Electrification

  • Steve Letendre, PhD, Fermata Energy's Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs, shared his perspectives on why the transition to advanced energy technologies is inevitable. ⚡ "The transition to advanced energy technologies isn’t just a shift; it’s an upgrade. Solar, wind, storage, and EVs are proving themselves to be the smarter, faster, and better choices for meeting our energy needs. The economics and benefits of these advanced energy technologies are simply too strong to ignore. Cheaper, faster, and better wins every time. And this time, the winners are the technologies that will power a healthier future." Given the events of the past couple of weeks, I needed a pep talk—so I wrote one! Many of us have dedicated our careers to accelerating the adoption of advanced energy technologies, and sometimes, it's important to step back and reaffirm why this transition is not just necessary but inevitable. This article lays out the key arguments supporting that thesis. Check it out!

  • Fermata Energy’s Senior Director of Product & Program Management, Claire Weiller, will be attending Smart Grid Observer’s V2X Business, Policy and Technology Forum UK in London next week! Claire will join other industry experts and utility professionals to discuss the potential, progress and hurdles facing widespread deployment of V2X in the UK. Results from V2X demonstrations and trials will be discussed with an eye toward refining business models and policies, identifying technologies, and overcoming current challenges facing V2G / V2X rollout in the UK and EU. According to Ofgem, the UK could have almost 11 million EVs on the road by 2030. If 50% of these vehicles were vehicle-to-grid (V2G) enabled, this would open up 22 TWh of flexible EV discharging capacity per year and could provide approximately 16GW of daily flexible capacity to the grid. The UK government plans to decarbonise the network by 2035, and EV batteries have a key role to play by providing energy during peak demand periods, contributing to grid stability by regulating frequency and voltage, and storing excess renewable energy for later use. In short, V2G has tremendous potential for enabling the renewables-centric UK grid of the future. Register now: https://lnkd.in/etmaYraa #V2X #V2G

🚛 #GridIntegrated #electric buses and trucks: Heavy on the road, easy on the load Heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs) – trucks and buses – are responsible for 25% of road transport emissions in the EU. The European Union has set ambitious CO2 reduction targets: 🔹 45% reduction by 2030 🔹 90% reduction by 2040 🔹 Zero-emission urban buses by 2030 As electric HDVs become the most competitive solution for transportation, they are forecasted to reach 600,000 vehicles by 2030. This surge will significantly impact an already strained electricity grid, presenting both challenges and opportunities. 🚀 The good news? Smart and #BidirectionalCharging can transform HDVs into a resource for the grid rather than a burden. On 10 February 2025 (14:00-15:00 CET), we’re hosting a webinar to launch our new paper which addresses these critical questions: ✅ How can HDVs reduce stress on the electricity grid? ✅ What innovative solutions already exist? ✅ How can policy and innovation drive the change?
