The new NXF650x transformer drivers from Nexperia are designed to deliver low noise and low EMI for isolated power supplies in small form factors. They are well-suited for a range of automotive applications like traction inverters and motor control, DC-DC converters, battery management systems and on-board chargers in electric vehicles (EV), as well as in industrial applications like telecommunications, medical applications, instrumentation and industrial automation equipment, solar inverters, energy meters, and programmable logic controllers (PLC). Learn more about our galvanic isolation portfolio and how we’re simplifying high-voltage system designs in this blog post by Product Marketing Manager Ikechukwu (Ike) Anyiam -https://lnkd.in/eZKBz7xq

A recent ECU development project we did at Embed had a number of integration issues. All rather annoying and time consuming, of course we fixed them. It reminded me that engineering problems are often due to not fully understanding what is needed. These issues were due to insufficient requirements around the interfaces of the systems involved. At Embed we like to use model based development. Building a model to better understand the problem. The most important thing about the model is that we can execute it, shake it down, and fully understand it. Then we generate code from the model for production ECUs using Simulink. This has led us to create our own Simulink Blockset. We port this to all our ECUs and our customers ECUs. It includes full support and blocks for CAN, LIN, UDS and XCP. It speeds development, reduces bugs and is more fun. The architecture of the Simulink Blockset we use, time and time again, is given below. #simulink, #mbd, #ecu

The UN Regulation number 155 for vehicle cyber security is coming into affect later on this year. July 2024 for all new vehicles within the UNECE member countries. Not optional - you have to do it if you want to sell vehicles in these countries. If you want any help with a secure bootloader and other ECU cyber hardening give me a message, post below, etc. Embed Limited have been developing secure bootloaders for years and would be happy to help.

Sophisticated Bootloaders To update your ECUs in the market securely is becoming more complex. The bad guys are getting more sophisticated, and we regularly see news footage of cars getting stolen from people’s front drives. To combat this bootloaders are becoming much more sophisticated and Embed are at the forefront of delivering sophisticated and secure bootloaders for automotive clients. Bootloaders A bootloader is a piece of software that enables the ECU to be reprogrammed over a network connection. In automotive applications the network is usually CAN but may also be Ethernet, FlexRay, GSM or LIN. In other industries we have seen UART, DBUS and WiFi. Every OEM has a slightly different download process. Embed have dealt with many and developed a generic bootloader that can be easily customised to accommodate any process. Boot Managers A boot manager is a piece of software that checks that the application software is exactly as released by the OEM before running it. In simple forms this is a checksum that is calculated on the complete application. In highly secure bootloaders this is an RSA signature. A checksum is much faster to calculate and easier to hack. RSA takes longer to calculate and therefore can slow the boot time of an ECU, but is far more secure. To overcome the boot time issues many microcontrollers now have a built in Hardware Security Module (HSM) that is specifically designed to quickly perform cryptography algorithms like RSA. Multiple Images for Over-the-Air Reprogramming To reprogram an ECU over the air with a traditional bootloader means that for a short while the ECU is out of action. The ECU has no application to run, so if the ECU in question is key then the car is dead. To overcome this the Embed Bootloader has the option of double imaging the application. Where the ECU has room for two applications. During the reflash process the bootloader erases one half of the application memory space and then flashes in the new application. Once the new application has been security checked it is then marked as the default application. To make matters more complex it is not uncommon to have multiple bootloaders. So should a security flaw be discovered in the active bootloader it can be replaced Over-The-Air with a new bootloader.
