  • Congratulations to our FRCA scholarship awards recipients for 2024 Carlie and Claire Mullins. These two women had a great foundation to their educational path growing up in a family-owned concrete business. Carlie and Claire Mullins, originally from Fayetteville, TN, are seniors in the Concrete Industry Management program at Middle Tennessee State University, graduating May of 2025. Both students are heavily involved in the ACI student chapter where Claire is secretary and Carlie is treasurer. They have helped in various ACI student competitions such as beam, mortar, and pervious concrete competitions. Carlie and Claire are both excited to explore various fields in the concrete industry while remaining open to any opportunities that come their way. For more scholarship opportunities like this please contact the FRCA for details.

  • FRCA believes in the future of our industry which begins with educating the newest crop of students training to make a difference. We support these efforts by engagement, education, and scholarships to students that show an interest in the concrete and those focusing on Fiber Reinforced Concretes. For more scholarship opportunities please contact FRCA for information. Congratulations to Tristen Yang the 2024 award winner for the Jim Speakman Memorial scholarship. Tristen's Bio. I was born in Manhattan, New York and have been living in Middle Tennessee my entire life. My journey in this program has been incredibly rewarding, I have engaged in hands-on projects like designing concrete mixes, conducting strength test, and getting ACI Certified. During my time at the program, I had joined the ACI club my sophomore year. While in the club I've had the opportunity to participate in multiple competitions including the ACI Mortar Competition and ACI Pervious Competition this upcoming fall. After graduating this fall, I intend to join a materials company in their sales department, focusing on areas like fiber, admixtures, or aggregate. Tristen Yang

  • Precast Concrete Burial grave Liners - Macro Synthetic Fibers are a good way to save money by eliminating steel reinforcement and labor replacing with Macro Synthetic fibers. Industry standards require 5,000 psi compressive strength and a min of 5,000 psi center load test at 28 days. Photos below show the standard test method per the National Concrete Burial Vault Association, applying a center load on a 12 x12 square plate loaded at a rate of 500 psi held for 1 min without a loss of pressure up to 5,000 psi. Photo #1 is the standard set up and Photo #2 shows center load of 7,000 psi with zero loss of pressure. Photo #3 standards manual Photo #4 typical real-world loading of burial vaults. Dose rate of the macro synthetic fiber is 7 lbs./yd3 that results in a saving a significant amount of money per vault vs standard steel reinforced vault plus labor to cut and place the steel. No rusting or deterioration lasts for an eternity.
