POWER. It's what we're talking about most at our Executive Dinners across the country - and we're amazed at how much talk there is in workplaces about "empowerment" but very little talk about what is power and how is it expressed? We ask leaders: how clear is everyone in your org about their decision-making rights? Do they have what they need to deliver on the expectations for their role? We'd love to hear your answers below. #power #workplace #leadership #reviews #performance And you can read more on some of the different kinds of power from Mentor Works here: https://lnkd.in/e6MfVfdy

We love this resource from Stanford, talking about the many positive attributes of Gen Z that - if workplaces can honor them - could lead to incredibly motivated and independent employees. So, we're unofficially declaring this Gen Z week, since this is about the moment in the year when Gen Z becomes a larger workforce than Boomers. Workplaces must be prepared from senior leadership to every last IC to take perspectives, explain processes, and help Gen Z employees feel valued for their work - to have clear purpose. In fact, these are all the qualities that a psychologically safe workplace would have - so prepping for Gen Z just might improve things for everyone! #genz #workforce #learninganddevelopment #workplaceculture https://lnkd.in/gQ3J5mz5

You may have seen these viral headlines about Gen Z getting fired almost as soon as they're hired. 1. We hope we can put an end to wild generational biases. It's hard enough to have 5 generations working side by side without them. 2. We LOVE this observation from this Deloitte report: "The new realities [of work] present us with complex questions to consider, including the ethics around human-machine collaboration, how to plan for 50-60 year careers, and how we unleash organizations through a continuum of talent sources. The future of work will call for a return of the Renaissance figure: a person with many talents, interests, and areas of knowledge." Given that GenZ has literally had the world at their fingertips since they emerged, might they - with some solid onboarding - not be best positioned for this kind of Renaissance work? Are you Gen Z? What is your experience in the workplace? (And are you even on LinkedIn??) #genz #workforce #unconsciousbias #training https://lnkd.in/d8ayArd

What is the last new "soft" skill you learned? (we really shouldn't call them soft skills - they're the hardest to learn!) In today’s workforce it’s the right-brain skills that truly set teams apart: how individuals and teams navigate challenges, identify and pursue opportunities, and how well their leaders can coach them. These are creative, generative skills that require a creative and generative solution. Film Forward combines on-platform, asynchronous learning with expert-led, virtual facilitated sessions that put individual learning on its feet in teams. Our format makes high-touch and high-efficacy learning available at scale, and we can fit the schedules and locations of nearly any structure of team or organization.  #learninganddevelopment #HR #SaaS #culture #leadership

Last week we hosted an executive dinner with people leaders who had a combined 200+ years experience. And we got into a discussion about power: how it's possible to make power visible, and also how making power visible can allow people to actually feel and use their own agency by defining decision-making rights, accountability, and expectations. Putting those right into the job description. If you do not do that, how are employees supposed to know what their job is and is not? What they are responsible for and accountable to? What are you measuring their performance against? Yet most workplaces assume everyone understands how power works in their organization. The most seasoned leader in the room shared that in her 25+ years in the workforce, nobody had ever used the word "power" when discussing workforce or job descriptions. She asked an essential question: How can we claim something is so clear that is never mentioned? Is power discussed in your workplace? Why or why not? What do you think it would mean to open up a conversation about power?

A leader’s behavior within their team has a significant impact on their team’s overall performance and effectiveness. This likely isn’t news to you. But did you know that organizations that value inclusive leadership are 33% more likely to experience industry-leading profitability (Forbes, 2021). Or that teams with inclusive leaders demonstrate 20% better decision-making. (Harvard Business Review) And that teams with inclusive leaders report 17% higher performance.
