This week HR.com invited Financial Finesse Senior Consultant and Head of DEI Engagement, Laura Stamps, to share insights on how employers can empower financially vulnerable employees. "Offering #financialcoaching as an employer-sponsored benefit is just the first step towards helping employees – especially people of color – alleviate their financial stress. The thoughtful and strategic implementation of financial wellness benefits, along with ongoing efforts by HR and benefits leaders, as well as their providers, to engage the employees who need these benefits most, is essential for maximizing impact." Last week, the National Hockey League (NHL) and the NHL Players Association held their annual Player Orientation Program (POP) in Washington, DC. The program targets players early in their careers, aiming to enhance their life skills, both generally and as they relate to life in the NHL. It covers a range of topics, including finance, personal branding, and sensitivity training. For the seventh consecutive year, we sent Brian Kelly, CFP®, one of our Financial Coaches to educate new players on maximizing their financial opportunities. It was an incredible event! Congratulations to the #NHL, the #NHLPA, and this year’s rookie class! 🏒 🚀

Wellness trend: In recent years, career breaks, or mini-retirements, have become more popular. According to a survey from Handshake, nearly eight in ten recent college graduates have expressed interest in taking time off from paid work to volunteer or for personal projects. Oyin A. explores the topic, sharing insights from people who've done it successfully, and financial experts, including Julie Everett, one of our CFP® Financial Coaches, in this The Wall Street Journal piece. Whether you're considering a #careerbreak or simply wish to understand how the next generation of employees views them, this article is for you. #financialcoaching #wellness #financialwellness

Some workers in their 20s and 30s are borrowing years of freedom from their future selves to enjoy some of their #retirement while they are still young, Oyin A. writes. Unlike followers of the FIRE movement, short for “financial independence, retire early,” those seeking microretirements say they aren’t looking for a shortcut to retirement by saving aggressively and living frugally. Their early retirement comes in the form of shorter breaks for travel or other pursuits. Although such career breaks are rare, more workers appear to be thinking about them. Nearly 80% of recent college graduates expressed interest in taking time off from paid work to volunteer or for personal projects, according to a survey from Handshake. Pausing your career during prime working years can slow the growth of a nest egg. But the chance to backpack the globe or take a series of mini-retirements is worth it, say those who have done it, even if it means delaying buying a home or having to work longer later to fund retirement—at a time when many fear a comfortable retirement is difficult to achieve. People who take mini-retirements should take steps to offset the financial consequences, said Julie Everett at Financial Finesse, such as saving more than 15% for retirement earlier in their careers and making up for lost income with higher pay when they are back on the job. Boosting retirement contributions can also help savings get back on track. Financial advisers said those wanting a career break should pay off debt first. If you don’t have a guaranteed job after the break, your savings should build in a buffer of a few months for a job hunt. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/g494cai7

Check out the latest episode of Financial Wellness at Work. This time you'll hear from one of our own employees, former college athlete, entrepreneur, and Client Relationship Manager at Financial Finesse, Thomas Bekas. Join host Julie Everett, Tom, and his #financialcoach, Jim Jacobucci, CFP®, MBA, to hear how Tom worked with Jim to build a healthier relationship with money, rewrite money scripts that were holding him back, pay off debt efficiently, and create impactful plans for his growing family. Tom's advice to anyone with a #financialcoaching benefit: “Pick up the phone. Make the call. [Financial coaches] are not judging you on the other side. They have actually been through a lot themselves – and they can help you get to a place where you can become financially free.” — Tom Bekas [17:35] https://lnkd.in/dfpHv6bB

If you were to ask American workers today about their current financial situation, their responses would likely result in opposing stories. There is a widening #financialhealth gap, where macroeconomic conditions are generating additional wealth for those with assets while simultaneously impoverishing those already struggling. In this piece for Kiplinger, Greg Ward, CFP® and Director of our Financial Wellness Think Tank™ explores the issue, and how workplace financial coaching can help address the evolving financial needs of employees on both ends of the spectrum. #employeebenefits #financialcoaching #financialwellness
