FDB is pleased to join the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) for the 20th anniversary celebration of American Pharmacists Month. We salute and thank the more than 700,000 pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and student pharmacists across the United States who are working to improve health outcomes for patients by ensuring they receive their prescriptions on time, that their medications are safe for the individual patient, and that patients understand their medication regimens. Pharmacy professionals today are also dedicated to improving public health and access to care by providing additional vital services to their communities: services such as immunizations, diabetes management, blood pressure monitoring, other cardiovascular risk reduction efforts, and more. The FDB team, which includes more than 70 pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, is honored to support pharmacy professionals in the field in their mission to improve care in our communities by equipping pharmacists with trusted drug knowledge to help them assess the safety and effectiveness of medications for each patient. Armed with data from FDB MedKnowledge®, curated by FDB’s clinical team, pharmacy staff is prepared to advise prescribers and patients about potential medication risks, suggest alternative treatments, and counsel patients on how best to take their medications. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians at FDB also lead in developing revolutionary new medication decision support tools such as FDB Navigo™ to help inform and streamline Drug Utilization review (DUR) and other vital pharmacy workflows so that pharmacy staff have more time to provide additional services to care for our communities. Thank you, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians on the FDB team, for sharing your insights and skills, and for your dedication to helping your peers in the field care for our communities! #AmericanPharmacistsMonth #CaringForOurCommunities

Older adults are more susceptible to COVID-19 complications, especially if they have preexisting conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). For many people, COVID can be a life-threatening condition, said Joan Kapusnik-Uner, PharmD, FCSHP, FASHP, the senior vice president of informatics and clinical content at FDB. “Therefore, immediate contact with a primary care professional is warranted,” she said. “Additionally, nirmatrelvir [Paxlovid, Pfizer], an antiviral drug that eliminates virus replication in the body, is useful in preventing COVID from worsening and may help prevent long COVID.” Martta Rose Kelly has the story for Specialty Pharmacy Continuum: https://bit.ly/47NolAw | #PharmacyExperts #PtSaety #LongCOVID #Paxlovid #MedSafety

The National Institutes of Health is awarding $5.4 million in first-year funding to establish a new program that supports the integration of genomics into learning health systems. The genomics-enabled Learning Health System (gLHS) Network project aims to identify and advance approaches for integrating genomic information into existing learning health systems. As genomic testing becomes increasingly common, more and more genomic data are available in clinical settings, and learning health systems present an opportunity to translate this evidence quickly and directly into improvements in medical care. On-site immunization clinics facilitated by pharmacists represent a significant advancement in public health. Pharmacists’ involvement in vaccination efforts has been shown to enhance patient satisfaction and trust in the healthcare system. Patients appreciate the convenience and personalized care that pharmacists provide, leading to stronger patient-pharmacist relationships. This trust is fundamental in promoting vaccine acceptance and adherence, particularly in communities with historical skepticism toward medical interventions.
