VivaTech 2024 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 🚀 Our co-founders had an incredible experience attending #VivaTech in Paris, the largest AI conference, alongside over 165,000 visitors and 13,500 startups. This event provided a unique opportunity to network with peers in the AI image generation space and gather valuable insights to drive the development of FitFrame. Here are a few key insights we gained: ✨ Innovation in Luxury and Retail: LVMH sees innovation as essential for luxury transformation. They hosted an Innovation Award, attracting over 1,545 startups, including FancyTech's AI-streamlined images-to-video solution and Aectual's on-demand 3D printing with recycled materials. LVMH Gaïa initiative blends science with creativity to develop new luxury materials and techniques, showcasing the potential of AI to enhance craftsmanship and heritage. FitFrame’s Key Takeaways: One of the most important realizations for us was that AI image generation, particularly volumetric imaging while preserving the original image, is a critical industry challenge. Current solutions often rely on manual 3D rendering, which requires significant manual involvement and is not scalable. This insight confirms that FitFrame is on the right path by developing innovative, scalable solutions to address these challenges. Our conversations with industry experts highlighted the need for advanced AI solutions that can handle complex imaging tasks efficiently and at scale. This is crucial for businesses where accurate product representation significantly impacts customer perception and decision-making. You’re a brand hoping to work more sustainably. When considering fabrics, you’ve weighed using polyester. It’s the most used fibre globally, known for durability, crease-resistance, and quick-drying properties. But is this a more sustainable material? 🪡🧵🤔 ❌ Nope. Polyethylene terephthalate AKA—“Polyester”—is made by polymerising ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid. Simply speaking: it’s plastic—and is the third most-used plastic. Polyester is not biodegradable, polyester manufacturing is highly energy and water intensive, and the disperse dyeing processes required to colour the material can result in water pollution, making it toxic to humans and animals. And, while recycled polyester is a growing market, this is neither a clearcut nor wholly more sustainable solution. So what can you do? A few ideas! ➡️ Prioritise lower-impact materials like organic cotton, hemp, linen, or TENCEL. ➡️ Embrace mindful end-of-life practices that prevent waste and overproduction. ➡️ Avoid polyester and other plastics in your work streams. ➡️ Use tools like Good Measures to help navigate how to improve. According to a new study by Vestiaire Collective, fast fashion just ain't it 👗 ❌ Taking a deep dive into the shopper habits of 13,400 research participants, Vestiaire Collective reached some alarming home truths. “Fast fashion is a false economy. Buying cheap, fast fashion is deceptive – in the end, you end up paying twice if not more,” says Dounia Wone, Chief Impact Officer at Vestiaire Collective, in the report. Vestiaire found that, based on cost-per-wear, it’s actually 33% cheaper to invest in vintage, rather than rely on fast fashion. In the long run, for example, a fast-fashion coat costs £4.16 per wear, while one sourced from Vestiaire works out at £1.40. In fact, the platform’s shoppers were found to wear their shoes 30% more times than fast-fashion shoppers – and their bags 45% more. On average, pre-loved items get 76% more wear than your bog-standard fast-fashion item. Of course, shopping more mindfully is easier said than done – especially under the time constraints of life in late capitalism. We’re not pointing fingers!
