Thank you, Five Rivers MetroParks and 2nd Street Market, for partnering with us again for #HungerActionMonth! This year our partner agencies, 5 Loaves and 2 Fish Pantry and Miami Valley Meals, took action with us by collecting donations and raising awareness about how to get involved in the fight against hunger. To everyone who participated in this event, thank you for making a difference! #Community #FoodDrive #NoOneShouldGoHungry

For more than 60 years, your Five Rivers MetroParks has been connecting people with nature by providing clean, safe outdoor spaces that support the public’s physical, emotional and mental health. Today, World Mental Health Day, we hope you get to spend some time outside in your favorite MetroPark or simply find respite somewhere in nature. 💚 There’s a lot going on right now and it’s okay to not be okay! Nature can be a powerful tool in your mental wellness toolkit, but it is not a replacement for speaking with a mental health professional. You may have heard the phrase “it takes a village to raise a child,” well the same is true for raising hundreds of native seeds, grasses, shrubs and trees in our nurseries – all of which help restore habitats that are critical to our local environment. With extreme care and dedication to our region’s natural heritage, our village of parks and conservation staff grow and plant hundreds upon hundreds of plants and trees each year - and we're so proud of them! In addition to the seed nursery at Germantown MetroPark, Cox Arboretum MetroPark is also home to the Barbara Cox Center for Sustainable Horticulture. Get a behind-the-scenes peek at this facility, in addition to must-visit trees and fall tips from MetroParks horticulturalist Jennifer Davit: https://lnkd.in/g_tiRaEG

Mayor of Riverside, Ohio; Director of Advancement at Archbishop Carroll High School

This Week with Mayor Pete... What a memorable week it's been! Monday marked a landmark occasion as we unveiled the new monument at the Dayton VA Campus, titled Lincoln’s Promise. This incredible statue commemorates the Executive Order President Lincoln signed on March 3, 1865, which laid the foundation for what would become the Veterans Affairs Department. This historic order ensured that our wounded soldiers would receive the care they deserve. Just two years after the Civil War ended, the National Central Branch or "Soldier's Home" was established right here in Dayton, Ohio, and has been serving veterans for over 150 years. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the American Veterans Heritage Center (AVHC), particularly AVHC President Bill D., whose passion and tireless work made this vision a reality. The monument is truly spectacular, and I am proud to have been involved as a volunteer with AVHC. On Tuesday, I attended a Community Forum at Way of the Cross Church to discuss the City-Led Ballot Issues for the upcoming November election, including Issue 22—the renewal of our current Police Levy. We also heard from Mad River Local Schools about their Permanent Improvement Levy and discussed potential improvements to Rohrer Park here in the City of Riverside, Ohio. I appreciate the residents who participated in this important dialogue. For those who missed it, the Riverside Area Chamber of Commerce is holding an informational meeting on Wednesday, September 25th at Community Church (Burkhardt & Meyer) at 6 PM. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the upcoming Police Levy, School Levy, Dayton Metro Library, and Five Rivers MetroParks levy. The Montgomery County Board of Elections will also be on hand for voter registration. These decisions on November 5th are critical, and we hope this event helps answer your questions before you head to the polls. On Thursday, I had the privilege of celebrating the kick-off of Stebbins Homecoming Weekend at the Parade and Bonfire. I want to send a special shout-out to Stebbins Principal Tina Simpson, who does an amazing job every day for our children. Tina, I am proud to support you and the work you do in our community and honored to call you my friend! Finally, on Friday, my wife and I attended the Prisoner Of War and Missing In Action Recognition Day ceremony at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. It was a solemn and moving event, highlighted by the presentation of the National League of Families POW/MIA Flag and the arrival of a torch that had been passed between active-duty service members in a 24-hour relay leading up to the ceremony. We were deeply moved by the powerful words of Retired U.S. Air Force Captain Guy Gruters, who survived five years as a POW in North Vietnam. His faith in both his country and God is an inspiration—a reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of those who protect our great nation.
