After two back to back hurricanes, and more potentials hovering about, Florida homeowners have peace of mind that roofers in their state must be licensed and insured. 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚, 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐞𝐛𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝. Unfortunately, homeowners in North Carolina can't be so sure. Service providers in NC can perform projects up to $30,000 without any kind of license. And since the cost to replace the average-sized shingle roof ranges from $5,822 to $10, 593, North Carolinians hit by Helene are prey to unqualified, fly-by-night "handypersons" out to make a buck. North Carolina doesn't require roofers to be bonded or carry insurance other than worker's compensation, either. So, if you get scammed, the onus is on you.
