I am having the best time working with rising star researchers through the African Research Funding Accelerator! Prof Tory Madden is such an inspiring researcher to work with. I love the new branding for her research group - the African Pain Research Initiative. Tory's Accelerator was sponsored by the UCT Neuroscience Institute and the Future Professors Programme.

🔦 Spotlight: Prof Tory Madden and the African Pain Research Initiative We are excited to showcase a recent branding initiative undertaken in collaboration with Alacia Armstrong (she/her), our graphic design team, and the Future Professors Program (https://lnkd.in/d2sZkXdi). This branding process was an extended service aimed at helping researchers enhance what they developed through the Accelerator program (https://lnkd.in/djyiH3Rk), by building a strong brand identity that speaks to funders and beneficiaries. The African Research Funding Accelerator is designed to support African researchers at any career stage by mapping a clear pathway toward greater resourcing, impact, and visibility (https://lnkd.in/djyiH3Rk). Through this program, researchers are supported to: -Develop a clear vision and mission with a positive fundraising mindset. -Lay the strategic foundation for large funding applications. -Craft a nuanced fundraising plan to identify aligned funders and donors. -Creating compelling narratives to capture the attention of funders. Earlier this year, Tory Madden launched the African Pain Research Initiative (https://lnkd.in/dfbdMmsr) at the UCT Neuroscience Institute, University of Cape Town. Its mission is to study how pain emerges and persists, identifying the most influential social, psychological, and neuroimmune mechanisms for treatment. Under Tory’s leadership, this initiative aims to: -Enhance understanding of pain mechanisms. -Develop practical pain prevention and treatment strategies in Africa. -Build a skilled network of pain-informed African researchers. -Raise public awareness and community support for pain management. The Accelerator programme provided an incredible opportunity for us to thoughtfully define the research identity and purpose of our team. Zoë Boshoff, Alacia Armstrong (she/her), and their graphic design team were instrumental in guiding me through this process with their support, strategic insights, and expertise. Together, we solidified the identity and direction of the African Pain Research Initiative and translated that into a compelling logo and website. This has significantly enhanced our visibility to both the public and potential funding partners and I look forward to engaging with others who are interested in our work and share our goals.

    Fundraising Strategist

Does anyone know a brilliant fundraiser looking for a job (or part time contract)? I am constantly asked for referrals by my clients. For me, being an excellent fundraiser means: - You know how to work with teams to conceptualise new projects and can think strategically. - You can project manage a scary funding application from start to finish, with attention to detail. - You are driven and motivated to put in new applications, even when the rest of the team are reluctant or intimidated. - You are not afraid of approaching potential donors for conversations. - You understand how to communicate impact. If you are out there, I can help you find a meaningful job!

Strengthen Your Multi-Year Action Plan with Strategic Questions As you develop your action plan, it's important to delve deep into your strategy and consider key elements that can significantly enhance your effectiveness. Stakeholder Collaboration: Who are the essential stakeholders that you need to collaborate with or influence to achieve your desired results? Identifying and understanding the roles of these stakeholders can optimize your strategy and amplify your impact. Effective Communication: What are the most effective ways to communicate your findings or recommendations to different stakeholder groups? Tailoring your messages to meet the specific needs and preferences of these groups ensures clarity and prompts action. Innovative Approaches: Are there fresh, innovative ideas from your partners that can propel your projects beyond the usual? Incorporating these can enhance your plan's effectiveness and keep your organization at the forefront of change. Scalability: Is your approach scalable and could it be applied in other contexts? Considering the scalability of your strategies can maximize impact and attract funders looking for broader, systemic changes. By addressing these questions, you not only refine your action plan but also boost its appeal to funders, making it a more compelling and fundable proposition. #StrategicFundraising #NonprofitInnovation #OperationalExcellence #FTfundraisingplan

Closing the Funding Gap with Strategic Fundraising Many research organizations find their essential core activities — like leadership salaries, office expenses, and operational costs — underfunded due to a focus solely on project-specific fundraising. Transitioning to a strategic fundraising model is vital for sustainability and mission success. By viewing your entire organization as a fundable project and linking core costs to mission-related targets, you can enhance your funding strategy. Strategic Shift: Move beyond project-based fundraising to embrace a holistic action plan that integrates high-impact projects with core operational needs. This comprehensive approach not only clarifies your organization's full spectrum of needs to funders but also increases the likelihood of their support, ensuring long-term impact. Hot Tip: Highlight essential, often overlooked costs in your action plan and demonstrate to donors how these core activities are critical for achieving your goals. This strategic alignment encourages funders to invest in both your projects and the foundational activities that sustain them. #FundraisingStrategy #OperationalSupport #FTfundraisingplan
