Transforming Infrastructure

About us

What is Flatiron? We’re more than a construction company. We are an organization of some 3,500 people with diverse backgrounds and varied expertise who share a singular focus on enhancing the well-being of people and communities. We bring together industry-leading engineers, highly skilled craft workers and other professionals to deliver innovative solutions to infrastructure challenges across the U.S. and Canada. Flatiron builds highways and bridges; aviation, rail and transit; dams and water treatment facilities; and underground projects that fuel local economies, improve safety and enhance efficiency. Flatiron engineers harness the art and science of structural design to create solutions that are as beautiful as they are functional. Our craft employees and on-site leaders bring vital experience to each project to turn vision into reality. And our project leaders collaborate with project owners to deliver solutions that meet challenging criteria—safely—while at the same time mitigating risk for all those involved. Beyond safely delivering outstanding projects, Flatiron people demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning, sustainability, our clients and partners, and the communities where we live and work. We build careers. We hire and advance the best engineers, craft workers and other professionals in our industry. We transform infrastructure.

As we commemorate National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, with our Canadian colleagues, let us take this day to learn, reflect and embrace. Truth comes before reconciliation. Remembering the tragic and painful history, as well as the ongoing impacts of Residential Schools, is a vital component of the reconciliation process. At Flatiron, we prioritize meaningful reconciliation efforts with Indigenous Peoples and communities. This commitment is reflected in our efforts to provide educational training on Indigenous history and contemporary culture, hire Indigenous staff and subcontractors, and support the training and apprenticeships of Indigenous youth. These initiatives are core to our company values. We all play a part in fostering understanding and building a better, more inclusive future for all. #TruthAndReconciliation #NDTR #OrangeShirtDay #EveryChildMatters

Traveling through the San Diego Airport just got easier. Roadways connecting travelers to the new San Diego Terminal 1 Parking Plaza are complete. Flatiron constructed the new roadway to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion. It features wider lanes, better signage and dedicated spaces for ride-sharing services. The adjacent parking plaza, built by joint venture partners Turner, offers more parking options and reduces the time spent searching for spots. This significant milestone improves access to San Diego International Airport, providing a smoother travel experience for passengers. As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re proud to highlight members of our Flatiron team like IT Programmer Analyst Adrian Macias.    Adrian joined Flatiron as an intern five years ago before he moved into a permanent role with our IT team. He’s not only a tech expert but also an avid soccer player, kayaker and snowboarder.    His roots trace back to Querétaro, Mexico, with family members who have dedicated their lives to education, faith, and service. As he shares, "Growing up in a Hispanic family felt like being raised by a village." His upbringing, rich with support and laughter, gave him a strong sense of community and connection that continues to shape his life.    To Adrian, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to celebrate culture in a way that transcends borders. As he says “It's an opportunity to reflect on the rich traditions, values, and history that shape who we are. It’s a reminder that our heritage is something we carry with us no matter where we are, and it’s important to honor and share it.”    His family’s tradition of celebrating Mexican Independence Day on September 16th is especially meaningful as it also falls on his father’s birthday, combining heritage with a personal celebration.    When asked about the importance of diversity in the workplace, Adrian highlighted how diversity brings a variety of perspectives and solutions to the table: “When people from different backgrounds come together, it leads to more efficient and innovative solutions.”    At Flatiron, we ‘re committed to creating an environment where everyone’s story is valued. Adrian’s experience reminds us of the importance of inclusivity, whether through celebrating cultural events or encouraging diverse ideas that lead to innovation and growth. #TransformingInfrastructure #HispanicHeritageMonth #MesDeLaHerenciaHispana #CelebratingDiversity

Nothing but smiles in the crowd as we celebrated the opening of Phase One of the Complete 540 Project in Wake County, North Carolina. "The extension of the Triangle Expressway will bring economic benefits to our more than 34,000 workers employed by the Apex economy - encouraging new businesses to locate near the roadway," says Apex Mayor Jacques Gilbert. "With the opening of the Complete 540 Phase One, the residents of Apex and the Greater Triangle Region will have access to more communities in our area than ever before, strengthening the bonds between all of us." Thank you Vicente Moscardo, PMPTodd Brannan, PMP and Stephen Harder for representing the project team at the ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by North Carolina Turnpike Authority. This monumental milestone for the Flatiron-Branch joint-venture team signifies years of hard-work, dedication and expertise from every team member. As we continue to transform infrastructure in Wake County, Flatiron is performing work on Phase Two of the Complete 540 Project – a project that, once completed, will add 6.6 miles of additional new highway and three new interchanges, beginning at Rock Quarry Road in Raleigh and extending to US 64/I-87. Flatiron is proud to play such an integral role in the Complete 540 Project that will enhance the travel experience for those who live, work in and visit Wake County. #TransformingInfrastructure #FlatironProject #NorthCarolinaInfrastructure

Flatiron’s Interstate 5 Oso Parkway project in Orange County, California, is open to the public. 🎉 This section of I-5 is the third most traveled roadway in the United States, carrying an average of 415,000 vehicles daily. Key achievements: → Constructed seven bridges in three locations. → Installed 22 retaining walls, including soil nail, vertical and horizontal ground anchor and MSE walls. → Placed 43,000 cubic yards of concrete paving and 41,000 tons of HMA paving. → Upgraded all drainage and electrical systems. → Removed contaminated soils. Crews widened nearly three miles of I-5, adding extra general-purpose lanes in each direction and ramp auxiliary lanes to alleviate current and future transportation demands. Flatiron completed this project while working above active roadways and busy passenger and freight rail lines. Caltrans #TransformingInfrastructure #FlatironProject
