I had the privilege of joining our chairman, Rodolphe SAADE, on a business trip to California, along with a distinguished delegation of CMA CGM members from Marseille and China, including Tanya Saadé Zeenny, Christine Cabau Woehrel, Mathieu Friedberg, Patrice BERGAMINI, Séverine Grégoire and Adeline Franger Chouraqui In San Francisco, we traveled between meetings in driverless autonomous cars thanks to Ryan Petersen, connecting with some of the most innovative AI companies, such as Perplexity, OpenAI and Google. I want to express my gratitude to the visionary leaders we met and look forward to enhancing our strategic partnerships with them In Los Angeles, we visited our FMS terminal, where three of our vessels were in operation. It was an honor to meet the crews of the CMA CGM T.Roosevelt, CMA CGM President Reagan—one of our new US-flagged ships—and the CMA CGM Virginia. We also had the chance to hold productive discussions with LA Mayor Karen Bass and her team. 🌊 Weekly Global Logistics Market Updates 🌊 🚢 Trans-Pacific Eastbound (TPEB) Update 🌏 Due to robust demand following Golden Week, carriers have announced a general rate increase (GRI) for Freight All Kinds (FAK) effective November 1, along with adjustments for the first half of the month. Fixed rates and Peak Season Surcharges (PSSs) will remain unchanged during this period. 🔄 Far East Westbound (FEWB) Update 🌊 Space is quickly filling up as we approach the November GRI, paired with capacity cuts from recent blank sailings. 🇪🇺 Trans-Atlantic Westbound (TAWB) Update 🔍 Demand is stabilizing in Northern Europe as the backlog from the ILA strike clears. New York is the exception, still seeing high demand. Good news: space is available, and carriers are extending their competitive rates into November. 🗽💼 🚧 Westbound Container Restrictions ⚠️ There are currently restrictions on westbound container movements from inland rail points to Los Angeles/Long Beach, expected to last 7-10 days. I recently interviewed Rolf Habben-Jensen, the CEO of Hapag Lloyd, one of the world's largest ocean carriers, to talk about their new hub and spoke network designed to drive improved on-time performance in ocean freight. The network redesign is a bold move from Hapag in partnership with Maersk, and not without criticism from many in the industry. However, if the network can deliver on their promises, it will be a game changer for all of us, as reliable ocean schedules and on-time delivery are near the top of every shipper's wish list.
