Updates

  • Across the logistics industry, AI is already reimagining a number of workflows—especially those that have long been resistant to change. “One of our big use cases [leveraging AI and machine learning] is planning—determining which container should go on which ship, trying to optimize transit time against costs against the commitments we’ve made to the carrier,” Flexport CEO Ryan Petersen told Ocean Network Express (ONE) CEO Jeremy Nixon. At Flexport, our planning technology has already saved us 2%—and has even improved our transit time by up to 20% across a large pool of containers. • The U.S. East Coast and China are seeing operational delays. One big factor? The weather. In the U.S., “snow in the Northeast and fog in the South are going to have lasting impacts,” said Nathan Strang, Flexport’s Director of Ocean Freight. And with the emergence of fog season in China, “delays are starting to pick up.” In many other regions, however, it’s business as usual. “That’s good news, especially as we’re coming into a time when vessels are resetting,” Nathan continued. Watch Nathan break it down below.👇 And check out the full FMU Live webinar on demand: https://lnkd.in/erqJ2T5Y

  • Today’s Global Logistics Update newsletter is live! We’re closely monitoring updates on tariffs and trade. This week, a 25% tariff hit all steel and aluminum imports, including derivative products outside Chapters 73 and 76, regardless of compliance with USMCA or other FTAs (like KRFTA). In retaliation, Canada and Europe quickly announced their own countermeasures. • Yesterday, Flexport CEO Ryan Petersen joined Bloomberg Surveillance to discuss recent tariff and trade developments—including impacts on U.S. manufacturing and exports, how businesses are responding to recent changes, and last month’s U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) proposal. “The United States is reindustrializing relatively quickly, but it’s too soon to say whether it’s happening as a result of the Trump administration,” Ryan said. As for the long term, “it’s a carrot-and-stick situation. The stick is tariffs—it’ll be more expensive to import from other places.  The carrot involves deregulation, and [factors] making it easier to manufacture in the United States.” Watch Ryan break it down below. 👇 For the latest updates on the Trump administration’s tariffs and trade policies, check out our live blog: https://lnkd.in/g6U89u98

🎉 Exciting news! We're proud to share that AscendTMS (TheFreeTMS.com) By InMotion Global, Inc. and the Convoy Platform are partnering, bringing together the industry's leading cloud-based TMS with the most robust capacity support and procurement technology on the market. This strategic integration eliminates the traditional trade-offs that have long frustrated freight brokers and carriers: • Quality vs. Speed: Access thousands of vetted carriers instantly, not just whoever answers first. • Relationships vs. Efficiency: Maintain your carrier relationships while automating the manual work. • Growth vs. Control: Expand your network while maintaining complete operational visibility directly in AscendTMS.   "We are thrilled to partner with Flexport's Convoy Platform to bring our customers a seamless, one-stop solution for all their truckload needs,” says Tim Higham, CEO of AscendTMS. “This partnership elevates digital freight management giving brokers unprecedented efficiency, access to capacity, and peace of mind."
