Happy City Hall Selfie Day! (Or in our case... Town Hall Selfie Day). Organized by ELGL: Engaging Local Government Leaders, #CityHallSelfie Day is a celebration of public service, highlighting the crucial work local governments do for their communities. Our selfie, taken by Town Manager James Childers, includes just a handful of the wonderful men and women who serve the Town of Flower Mound!

The Flower Mound Fire Department's Chief Robert Barron was recently selected as the 2024 recipient of the Training Officer Award! This award, from the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and Vector Solutions, recognizes individuals who excel in delivering and executing their agency’s training programs, demonstrating exceptional innovation, commitment to best practices, and operational effectiveness. Thanks for watching our boss! 👋🏻 If you want even more face time with Town Manager James Childers, come chat with him during our last FloMo Convos session of this series on Wednesday, July 10 at 7 p.m. at Argyle High School (6601 Canyon Falls Dr.). During this one-hour community meeting, you’ll get a chance to meet with staff, answer live survey questions, chat in small groups about our Town and its future, vote about topics that matter most to you, and get to know your neighbors. (P.S. Thankful for a boss who puts up with our antics!!!!)

We did it! Between Republic crews, our third-party contractor T.F.R. Enterprises, and Town staff, we have completed storm debris collection from the severe weather we experienced in late May. Over the course of four weeks, we picked up over 7,900 cubic yards of brush (imagine a gigantic pile of almost 8,000 washing machines – that’s a TON of brush)! To accomplish that monumental task, T.F.R. deployed three huge trucks to our town and worked around the clock, including on weekends. Our Public Works, Parks and Rec, and Utilities crews helped pick up smaller piles and accessed harder-to-navigate streets that T.F.R. couldn’t reach. In total, Town staff dedicated more than 1,600 hours to storm debris collection. So we want to give a huge shoutout to our Public Works, Fire, Parks and Rec, Utilities, Code, Pay Roll, GIS, Customer Relations, and Communications employees for all of their hard work to get this done as quickly as possible. We dumped almost all of the debris at Living Earth, a green material recycler, which means we kept it out of the landfill. Thank you, Living Earth, for working with us on such short notice to make that happen! The numbers included in this post (both the amount of debris and staff work hours) will continue to increase, as Public Works crews are still hauling brush to Living Earth from a large pile we dumped at our Public Works yard. Bravo to everyone involved!!

Check out the newest hardware at Town Hall! Flower Mound’s Communications Department recently earned three awards from the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO). The awards recognize outstanding communication by Texas communities in a variety of categories. You can check out the Town’s award-winning work at the links below. - First Place – Special or One-Time Program – The FloMost Wonderful Time of the Year (https://bit.ly/4bfABtO) - First Place – Public Service Announcement (Educational) – Tree Topping Hurts (https://bit.ly/4eCH0SN) - Third Place – Best Use of Humor – The Flower Masked Singer: 2023 State of the City (https://bit.ly/3VF5LF5) It’s always nice to be recognized for our hard work, but our main motivation is keeping you in the loop on everything happening in Flower Mound. To do so, the Communications team maintains Facebook, X, Instagram, Nextdoor, LinkedIn, and YouTube accounts, as well as posts regular notices to the Town’s website, publishes a monthly e-newsletter, sends out utility bill inserts, and much more. You can learn about all the ways to stay connected by visiting https://lnkd.in/gvvvrPTR.

Have you heard the news? We’re official! We’ve transitioned our website and staff email addresses to flowermound.gov. This switch to a .gov domain is more than just a cosmetic change (though we are feeling pretty snazzy these days) – it’s a big step in bolstering cybersecurity and identifying our website as official, trusted information. You can learn more about this change at flowermound.gov/official. Never fear – flower-mound.com is still here. It, and our old email addresses, will automatically redirect to our new .gov domain.

It’s National EMS Week! All members of the Flower Mound Fire Department are certified as both Firefighter and EMT, with most being certified as Paramedics. When an emergency happens, it’s thanks to this impressive team of EMS practitioners that those in our community are always in the best hands. We celebrated them at the May 20 Town Council meeting, and they showed up and showed out! 👏
