🍔 Burgers. Donuts. Juice. Blindness?!?🍩 The DailyMail.com just published an article about a Massachusetts boy whose restricted diet of burgers, donuts, and juice led to permanent blindness. The boy’s limited diet resulted in severe nutrient deficiencies and optic atrophy. EARLY intervention is critical for kids suspected of having ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder), particularly in children with autism. For ABA professionals, this underscores our role in using specialized feeding therapies to address extreme food aversions to try new foods and prevent serious health risks. We're proud to offer these specialized services to families and professionals whose clients struggle with restricted eating. In fact, Ella (referenced in this article) was on of our former clients and she is now THRIVING! https://lnkd.in/e-3hdw-Y #PickyEating #ARFID #DailyMail #ABA #AppliedBehaviorAnalysis #RestrictiveEating #AvoidantRestrictiveFoodIntakeDisorder

Did you know there are 900,000 children in the U.S. facing feeding issues? Out of those, 45,000 require intensive intervention, yet we have just 16 intensive feeding programs available! This shocking statistic comes from a recent report in the The Journal of Pediatrics that highlights the critical gap in care—especially with no programs in the Western U.S. As clinics increasingly integrate SLPs, OTs, and other specialists into their practices, feeding therapy must be included as an essential component of care—the demand is pressing and undeniable! At Focused Approach, we love collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive support for our clients. What is the most pressing need for specialized care at your clinic? And why is it feeding therapy? #FeedingTherapy #ABACollaboration #PediatricCare #FocusedApproach #JournalOfPediatrics https://lnkd.in/gyg3kvwM

Meet Jeff, Sara, and their son Silas. After years of frustration and no results, they turned to Focused Approach. After only a few months, Silas is not only eating but thriving! 🍽️ This family’s journey shows the real impact of specialized care and the importance of finding the right support, even if it means considering private pay options. As Jeff put it, "You can keep going from clinic to clinic because they accept insurance, or you can work with Dena, get on a payment plan, and have your lives changed." 💡 For those of us in the ABA world, we know that real, meaningful progress isn't always found through the most “convenient” option. It’s about providing solutions that change lives. How do you guide families in choosing the right care, not just the easiest or least expensive one? #FeedingTherapy #ABATherapists #PrivatePay #FamilyImpact #FocusedApproach #FeedingChallenges #ABASuccess #AppliedBehaviorAnalysis

📰 Autistic teenager's 'picky eating disorder' left her blind and almost killed her https://lnkd.in/gBB4geR6 🚨 Pediatricians, providers, BCBAs, parents, and caregivers—this is a wake-up call! 🚨 Bella's parents sought help when they noticed her restricted eating, but their concerns were dismissed because her weight seemed "acceptable." This highlights a dangerous misconception: weight alone doesn’t reflect true health. The eating disorder charity, BEAT (UK), reports a 7x increase in ARFID calls over five years, yet many GPs still lack awareness of this condition. ARFID is diagnosable and treatable. Early intervention is key. Let’s take every concern seriously, regardless of weight. If you're a professional, learn the signs of ARFID. If you're a parent, trust your instincts. #ARFID #AvoidantRestrictiveFoodIntakeDisorder #PickyEating #RestrictiveEating #Autism #AutismAwareness #FeedingTherapy #ABA #AppliedBehaviorAnalysis

💡 DYK? The muscles in your mouth are just like the muscles in the rest of your body. If they’re not being used, they won’t develop the strength and function we need. When kids rely on bottles or pureed foods, they miss out on building the tongue and jaw strength required for managing textured foods. Eating and chewing can make a big difference in development! #ABA #AppliedBehaviorAnalysis #FeedingTherapy #ChildDevelopment #PediatricTherapy #FocusedApproach
