For example, Maggie Walker was the first African American woman to be President of a bank. Today, Greater Richmond is home to a thriving finance and insurance industry.

Our President and CEO Watchen Harris Bruce has been busy! In honor of Women's History Month, we would like to spotlight her remarkable leadership. Bruce is among the 50 recent graduates of the esteemed 11th NeighborWorks America Achieving Excellence Program from The Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education! This a testament to her commitment in community impact. This transformative 16-month program empowers nonprofit leaders to drive meaningful change by focusing on organizational performance and outcomes. In addition to receiving this new certification, she participated in the 2024 National Interagency Community Reinvestment Conference (NICRC) in Portland, Oregon as a panelist. Her focus was the vital role of Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) in low- and moderate-income (LMI) communities, as well as the importance of partnerships with commercial banks.
