Our mission, here at the Food Bank, is to eliminate hunger in the Heartland by ensuring consistent access to healthy foods through community partnerships. One of those community partners, Nebraska Vegetable and Protein, suffered a tremendous loss last night due to an electrical fire. We work closely with them to provide lettuce greens to pantries in Iowa through the Local Foods Purchase Assistance Program. Our thoughts are with the team at Nebraska Vegetable and Protien as they navigate this very difficult time.

  • It’s #FeelGoodFriday and we are so excited to share how the community came together for our Hunger Action Month Stuff the Truck event! In total you helped provide over 2,600 pounds of food to our neighbors in need! A big thank you to Omaha Steaks for matching every donation—pound for pound, Baker's Grocery for hosting us, and KGOR 99.9 FM and KXKT radio for spreading the word! This event is a testament to the giving spirit of the Heartland. As we thanked everyone who dropped off donations that afternoon, one woman shared with us, “I’ve been blessed. It’s time to bless someone else.” 🧡 YOUR generosity is filling neighbors with hope—and their tables with nutritious food—making a direct impact across our 93-county service area. #FoodBankHeartland #StuffTheTruck

SNAP—The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program—plays a vital role in providing food assistance to low-income individuals and families across the Heartland. Did you know if families receive SNAP benefits, they only recieve $5 a day to spend on food for the entire day? To raise awareness about food insecurity and the challenges many face in accessing nutritious foods, consider participating in the “$5 A Day Meal Challenge” over the next week! This challenge encourages you to experience firsthand the constraints that come with budgeting for food on a limited income, and how challenging it can be for our neighbors who have no other choice. If you’re participating in this challenge, we want to hear from you. Let us know your thoughts! #FoodBankHeartland #SNAPChallenge

Learn more from one of our match donors on why they support the Food Bank’s mission. “Learning about the organization and all the people that it helps feed is truly amazing.
