Yesterday, our Food Bank met with colleagues at Feeding America and Feeding the Carolinas regarding the extensive damage caused by Hurricane #Helene in North and South Carolina. We learned some initial ways we can support our sister food banks and have dispatched assistance to those we can reach – with plans to do even more when roads reopen. So far we've been able to provide water to our friends Harvest Hope Food Bank in Columbia and have plans to produce 10,000 frozen meals in our Wilmington commercial kitchen this week to contribute to the disaster response. For more information about how we're helping and how you can get involved with relief efforts through our Food Bank, please visit foodbankcenc.org/helene #noonegoeshungry #carolinastrong

The USDA recently announced that much-needed investments in local farms and food banks are on their way! It's an important reminder that government decisions impact our day-to-day work and the lives of those facing #hunger. No matter who wins tomorrow's elections, let's make sure our elected officials know that ending hunger needs to be a top priority for all levels of government. #NoOneGoesHungry Find your polling place and voting resources at https://bit.ly/3NOMRrN. Twice a year, our staff gather to celebrate our accomplishments and enjoy time together. With our minds and hearts on Western North Carolina, we decided to use our fall staff day to complete service projects at our Greenville, Raleigh, and Wilmington Branches. Together we sorted thousands of pounds of hygiene items donated by the community to send out west. We also bagged produce, built boxes for our Senior Nutrition Programs, and wrote cards of thanks to our partners in hunger relief who are serving those impacted by Hurricane Helene. It was a wonderful day of service and fellowship for our staff! #HeleneSupport #noonegoeshungry #helene #hurricanehelene

We're so proud to announce that Smithfield Foods Hunger Relief Day at the N.C. State Fair raised enough food to send 18 truckloads of food and supplies to our sister food banks in Western North Carolina! That's more than 280,000 meals for our friends and neighbors that have been impacted by Hurricane Helene. Thank you to everyone who brought donations and the nearly 500 volunteers who helped load trucks! #NoOneGoesHungry

Helpful Tip: If you need help and don't have a temporary market nearby, use one of our awesome partner agencies. They can provide more personalized care, sometimes provide more than food, and receive the same items we serve in nine Pop Ups. Find an agency near you by visiting foodbankcenc.org/comiday typing your zip code in the bar of quest. It will generate associated agencies and list them from the closest to the furthest. DO NOT ARRIVE before the scheduled market time; our staff and volunteers need that time to prepare for the market so everyone has the best time possible. And, if possible, bring your own bags or boxes. These are ALL the locations we have so far. We plan to expand the program to include more locations, but it is a work in progress. When we have new locations they will be posted asap.

🎉 🎉 Our team is ready for Smithfield Foods Hunger Relief Day at the N.C. State Fair. Our staff and friends are getting their most needed items to donate tomorrow 10/24 for FREE entry! This year, all food donated will be sent to Western N.C. where many people are still without running water and electricity. That's why we are asking for items that come in pouches, boxes, or tab top cans. See you at the fair! #HomeGrownHappiness #NoOneGoesHungry 🎉 🎉

We are only 2 DAYS away from Smithfield Foods Hunger Relief Day @NCStateFair, and our volunteers are getting ready to collect the items you bring for FREE entry on Thursday 10/24. This year's proceeds will be delivered to those in Western N.C. who are recovering from the effects of Hurricane Helene. Many residents in the western part of our state still do not have running water or electricity, so we are recommending fairgoers donate foods packaged in pouches and tab-top cans. See our list for suggestions. Looking forward to seeing you at the fair! #NoOneGoesHungry
