  • We have entered the age of cardiometabolic health, and obesity is at the heart of many of the latest developments. An array of factors, from biological to psychological to environmental, contribute to the challenge of addressing this growing societal issue; even social stigma plays a role. The complexity increases when we consider the interplay of these factors and attempt to personalize assessment and solutions.  A key theme at the ObesityWeek®2024 conference is Advancing Equitable Care. From the ObesityWeek website: Addressing equitable healthcare for individuals with obesity is critical. The influence of bias and stigma on both the quality and accessibility of care is evident across various areas, including clinical study designs, medical education, policymaking, and clinical settings. Health equity issues for people with obesity are important and multifaceted:  Disproportionate impact: Obesity rates are higher among certain demographic groups, including ethnic minorities, low-income populations, and socially marginalized communities. These groups often face greater barriers to accessing healthy foods, safe places for physical activity, and quality healthcare. Access to care: People with obesity often encounter bias and discrimination in healthcare settings, which can lead to inadequate treatment and support.    Social determinants of health: Factors such as education, income, and neighborhood environments play a major role in obesity rates.  Tailored interventions: Public health interventions must be designed with a focus on equity to ensure effectiveness for all populations. This includes culturally appropriate programs and policies that address the specific needs of high-risk groups. Policy and advocacy: Efforts to improve health equity for people with obesity include advocating for policies that increase access to healthy foods, create safe environments for physical activity, and provide comprehensive healthcare coverage. FORCE Communications-Powered by Petauri™ collaborates with our pharma and biotech clients to educate healthcare providers who are working hard every day to understand this complex issue and provide the best possible care for patients. #bringingsciencetolife #obesity #obesityweek2024 #healthequity #medcomms #science #patientsfirst

  • October is Eczema Awareness Month!  Eczema, one of the most common skin conditions, is characterized by inflammation leading to dry, itchy patches on the skin. It affects 31.6 MILLION people in the US, with a global reach of 10% of adults and 4%-8% of children. It can be triggered by environmental factors, allergens, or stress and has a major impact on the daily life of those who suffer from the condition. Every October, YOU can take part in the effort to spotlight eczema! Take the time to learn more about the causes of eczema and ways that people can manage their symptoms. There is often an unfortunate and hurtful stigma associated with eczema due to lack of awareness and understanding. Throughout October, many organizations inform the public about this condition using a variety of resources—literature, videos, events, discussions—you name it, Eczema Awareness Month has it! FORCE is proud to be a partner and advocate in helping patients who are struggling to manage their symptoms. We encourage you to educate yourself and join the movement to increase eczema awareness! Like and share this post to do your part to raise awareness. We welcome your comments as well. #bringingsciencetolife #eczema #medcomms #science #patientsfirst Petauri

  • The European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) is celebrating their 60th anniversary at this year’s annual meeting in Madrid from September 10-13! FORCE is excited to learn about the newest updates in diabetes and related research areas from colleagues around the world. Diabetes management has experienced revolutionary advancements since the discovery of insulin in 1921. From the first prototype of an insulin pump in the 1960s to the recent approval of GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonists, the past 60 years have been marked by unprecedented strides in care for patients living with not only type 1 or type 2 diabetes, but several associated conditions as well. We can’t wait to see what the next 60 years will bring and how scientific conferences supported by organizations like EASD will continue to help advance and disseminate leading research in the field! #easd #patientsfirst #diabetes #obesity #bringsciencetolife

  • This is the good stuff! There’s nothing better than joining one’s teammates to learn, share, and get to know each other better. Last week, we held our FORCE Communications-Powered by Petauri™ all-company meeting in Indianapolis, where coworkers from across the country met for 2 days of targeted learning, socializing, and celebrating. One highlight was hearing from a client panel about their experiences and expectations—and a bit of crystal-ball prediction of our industry’s future. Representatives from medical affairs, marketing, and KOL engagement teams graciously shared their expertise and perspectives to help us bring science to life for our clients today and for many years to come. At FORCE, we know that our culture is special. Events like this are a terrific reminder of just how special it is. #medcomms #ourcompany #science #patients #life #culture

  • The 84th Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association are taking place June 21-24 in Orlando! FORCE is excited to attend, learning about the newest diabetes research findings and networking with industry colleagues.  The number of Americans diagnosed with diabetes is increasing. Prevalence was estimated at 10.3% from 2001 to 2004 and climbed to 13.2% between 2017 and 2020. The total economic burden was estimated at $412.9 billion in 2022. Researchers predict that both figures will continue to increase; thus, effective disease management is critical to the well-being of Americans. In 2023, Eli Lilly and Company and Novo Nordisk both announced that their insulin copay maximums would be capped at $35 per month and were joined by Sanofi in early 2024. This means that most Americans now have access to lower-cost insulin to ease their financial burden.  New treatments such as glucagon-like peptide 1, or GLP-1, and/or gastric inhibitory polypeptide, or GIP, agonists have been revolutionary in treating type 2 diabetes, which shows that continued research into diabetes and related diseases such as obesity still has a large role in further advancing patient care. In March, the FDA approved the first treatment for metabolic-associated steatohepatitis, or MASH, a fatty liver disease that is estimated to affect up to 25% of the global population (and has high overlap with type 2 diabetes and obesity populations). Conferences such as these scientific sessions are critical in sharing important research findings in the field, and we are grateful to be able to enter with open ears.  Will you be there? Let’s chat about what excites you! #diabetes #medcomms #science #obesity #patients
