About us
Ford, Powell & Carson (FPC) is a multi-disciplinary design firm based in San Antonio, Texas. Founded by legendary regional modernist, O’Neil Ford, in 1939, the firm has won more than 200 awards for work in architecture, campus planning, interior design, urban design, and historic preservation in the succeeding years. FPC has always been concerned with making vital, active places, whether they be public plazas and squares, university campuses or waterfront recreational spaces. Our approach to design has always included a concern for common sense economy, using regionally produced materials, and for environmental sustainability through the conservation of water and a sensible design of buildings for our climate. We have kept pace with technical and environmental innovations since the start, installing solar hot water systems as early as the 1970’s. Our designs strive to be responsive, meaningful, and enduring testaments of our firm's legacy and commitment to the past, present and future of San Antonio.

With its beautifully arched facade and instantly recognizable brick coursing, the Henry Terrell Building is the perfect reminder of why we love working on existing buildings. Clearinghouse CDFI matched our passion for historic architecture and urban revitalization with their investment along this wonderful pedestrian thoroughfare. What better introduction to our great city than starting your portfolio two blocks from the Alamo. In its former life, this building served as a YWCA, a hotel, and several retail concepts before sitting vacant. Welcome back, Henry. FPC is proud to announce that the Episcopal Diocese of Texas has been awarded a Preservation Austin Preservation Merit award for our team's rehabilitation of the historic St. David's Episcopal Church in downtown Austin. The historic Gothic Revival church started in 1853, and was the first stone masonry religious structure in the city of Austin, made of native cut limestone. Through the years the parish has completed several alterations and significant additions to the building as their needs and mission have grown, including the 1966 Sumners Hall addition and the 2001 Bethell Hall addition. The congregation and structure are a beacon in downtown Austin, welcoming the community through their doors for a wide variety of events, including the SXSW film festival. The FPC design team undertook the rehabilitation of the historic limestone and brick church, which included structural repairs to the masonry, restoration of the plaster walls, wood floors, wood pews, and replication of the historic paint colors and decorative stenciling. Upgrades include new LED lighting, IT improvements, and a new audio-visual system. The restoration was complete in time for the congregation's 175th anniversary celebration. The Mexican American Civil Rights Institute is a powerful and important group in San Antonio, chronicling and advancing the Mexican American's civil right's efforts in the US. FPC is excited to have the opportunity to play a part in bringing their vision to life through efforts to plan a larger and more permanent home to tell this story. "We are incredibly honored to have been selected by MACRI to help realize their goal of bringing a permanent museum to San Antonio that shares the many contributions Mexican Americans have made to advance democracy in the United States. Our firm's passion for designing and preserving culturally significant places and spaces perfectly aligns with MACRI's mission. We look forward to working alongside all the community partners on this critically important project." -Nathan Perez, FPC Principal
