Foresight Fellow, Michael Florea, discussed his company's innovative approach at the Longevity Workshop in collaboration with the Longevity Biotech Fellowship highlighting the automation of animal research to revolutionize aging studies. Florea the founder and CEO of Olden Labs, presents his company's efforts to revolutionize animal research with automation. He begins by comparing outdated manual processes from the 1950s with today's systems, highlighting the need for improvement. Michael emphasizes that most knowledge about aging comes from animal studies, yet current methods are inefficient and costly, with little replication. Olden Labs aims to solve this by automating animal research through smart cages, robotics, and gene delivery. Smart cages gather extensive data without harming the animals, while robotics automate animal care, reducing costs and enabling scalability. The third technology, whole-body gene delivery, accelerates the study of aging-related diseases and genetic mutations. Michael describes how their AI-powered smart cages track various metrics, such as activity, sleep, and anxiety, without invasive methods. Early results show distinct age-related changes in mice behavior, which can be integrated into a digital bio-age metric, helping researchers assess biological versus chronological age. He concludes by stating the company's goal: to 100x longevity studies globally by making them more standardized, reproducible, and accessible, ultimately contributing to aging research and therapeutic development. The talk ends with audience questions about methodology and future improvements. Watch full recording here: https://lnkd.in/dptt8tEE

The Space Futures and Governance Workshop was successful last week at Chabot Space Center in the Bay Area, in partnership with the OpenLunar Foundation. Thank you to our sponsors, speakers, fellows, and attendees for their contributions to an exceptional workshop. We’ve made considerable progress in our understanding of the prospective future of space exploration. The workshop featured stimulating presentations on moon energy, space economics, and politics, alongside practical working group discussions that sparked new project concepts. Participants included Abbhinav Muralidharan *Open Lunar Foundation), Adam Wong (Atomic-6), Alex Gilbert (Payne Institute for Public Policy), and many others who shared insights on topics such as lunar power standards, space policy futures, and the economics of space settlement. Stay tuned for the event recordings and a comprehensive report, which will be available soon. In the meantime, please peruse select photographic highlights from the event: https://lnkd.in/dW_5Qg5d
