This year Manufacturing Day was the perfect opportunity for Ellwood National Crankshaft, ELLWOOD National Forge & Ellwood National Steel to join together and engage students in the Warren County area. These groups know that awareness is key and they developed an event to educate these students about the great career opportunities that exist right in their own community.

Not one, not two, but three student tours were hosted this week in celebration of Manufacturing Day! We're committed to inspiring, educating, and developing the future leaders of our industry.
Two groups toured our Brantford facility, while the third toured our Paris location. These tours provide valuable experiences for students and open doors to exciting career opportunities in the forging industry.
Patriot Forge is proud to be part of this thriving profession and the positive impacts we have made in the forging industry.
The Forging Industry Association is launching a new campaign to highlight the industry's critical role in supporting the defense industrial base and unveiling the results of a new survey by accounting firm Wipfli that shows significant untapped capacity to meet the Pentagon's urgent needs.
Forged products are feeding the aerospace, automotive, space, mining, transportation, semiconductor, clean energy, medical, and construction industries. And when it comes to national security, these companies operate the furnaces, hammers, and presses that heat, shape and convert raw metals and alloys into the forgings that make up the backbone of our armed forces and those of our allies.
Some big takeaways: 63% of forgers surveyed currently do work within the defense industry. On average they are operating at only 51% of available capacity. And it's even lower, or 41% utilization, for companies that are primarily doing defense work.
“Washington is making historic investments in our technological edge to compete in this new era of great power competition. But the North American forging industry is at risk of being neglected – by a combination of inattention from government authorities, a stubborn myth that it lacks sufficient capacity to meet demand, and trade policies that hobble us and aid our adversaries," says FIA CEO Jim Warren.
“There is ample untapped capacity to do additional work to support our armed forces," he added. "However, an overly cumbersome defense acquisition system and unpredictable material shortages stymies the nation’s ability to tap into the industry’s capacity, even as the Department of Defense’s needs are growing.”
From Colin Demarest in Axios' Future of Defense newsletter today: "These guys make possible tanks, warships, aircraft, missiles and more. It would be wise to take heed, as resources win wars."
The Forging Industry Association, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, represents 231 North American metal forging producers, suppliers, and service providers. In the U.S. that includes 152 plants in 38 states and more than 36,000 skilled workers.

I am immensely grateful for being chosen to receive the Al Underys Engineering, Metallurgical & Material Sciences Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship will enable me to deepen my understanding of occupational safety, potentially equipping me with knowledge that could save lives in the workplace.
Your generosity has enabled me to focus my university studies entirely on occupational safety. Instead of worrying about finances, I can consult with professors about safety issues and engage with peers to learn how various industries address these challenges. This dedicated focus allows me to gain extensive knowledge about improving workplace safety.
Furthermore, this scholarship allows me to pursue additional educational opportunities such as internships without the burden of financial strain. For example, previous scholarships enabled me to intern at Finkl Steel, where I gained invaluable safety knowledge. This internship has granted me the chance to incorporate my lessons and knowledge obtained in university to the workplace. I would not be as knowledgeable about safety if I had not been able to pursue this internship, made possible by scholarships.
Once again, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity your generosity has provided me."
