🚨 Exciting News for Fort Pierce! 🚨 Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) has been awarded a $10 million Water Quality Improvement Grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as part of Governor Ron DeSantis’ initiative to protect Florida’s water resources! 🌊💙 This funding will support the relocation of our existing island wastewater treatment plant to the new Mainland Water Reclamation Facility (MWRF)—a move that will enhance water quality, protect the Indian River Lagoon, and improve service for our community. 🔹 Why This Matters: ✅ Reduces environmental impact on the Indian River Lagoon ✅ Upgrades aging infrastructure with advanced technology ✅ Improves system resilience and reliability ✅ Ensures a cleaner, more sustainable future for Fort Pierce 💬 “This is more than just a construction project—it’s a legacy of environmental stewardship,” said FPUA CEO/Director of Utilities Javier Cisneros. A throwback to April 2024, when Rylee Gunn from Florida #PublicPower utility Fort Pierce Utilities Authority participated in the Public Power #LineworkersRodeo. After completing her apprenticeship, Gunn will join the ranks of female journeyman lineworkers from public power utilities including South Carolina’s Santee Cooper, North Carolina’s Fayetteville Public Works Commission, and Ohio’s Cleveland Public Power. https://ow.ly/rULC50SXSNg #TBT

We are very proud of our very own Rachel Tennant, FPUA’s Director of Public Affairs and Sustainability, who presented at this year’s Florida Municipal Electric Association annual conference. Her team is responsible for millions of dollars of grant funds raised for our local utility infrastructure since 2022, and she presented to Florida’s municipal electric companies about how to build an in-house grants team dedicated to raising funds for infrastructure projects.
Attendees of the 2024 FMEA Annual Conference enjoyed an afternoon of concurrent breakout sessions, which enabled them to choose which presentations to attend based on their professional interests. After three days of educational and networking opportunities, we look forward to bringing the conference to a close this evening at the Annual Banquet. Stay tuned for our announcement of the Member of the Year and Associate Member of the Year award recipients later this evening! #FLPublicPower #PublicPower
