When I resigned from my 9 to 5 regular job back then, I didn't really have any grand plans for becoming a business owner. I just felt it was time for me to embrace the new, to embark on the journey from my comfort to growth and of course, more income doing something I loved and was capable of doing. Sure, being my own boss sounded cool and all that, but for me it was more because deep down, I knew that what I was doing was not what I wanted to be doing for the rest of my life ... or even the near future. So, I made the decision and I told Geoff Bliss my boss at the time, that I was leaving. And I left, making sure the door didn't hit me in the head on my way out! I had been working as a Personnel & Training Officer for a housing association In East London, so I knew I could teach office software skills as a freelance trainer and that's what I did. Leaving the familiar behind was scary at the time, but that's where growth happens for all of us, no matter what we spend most our time doing. And if you know my story, then you know that I proceeded to fail 3 times in my first 5 years of being in business for myself as a trainer and coach. But here I am today, more than twenty years into the business of coaching and consulting, and I'd do it all over again if I had to. It's why I encourage people to share their knowledge, gifts and wisdom through creating and offering their own profitable coaching program. Plus, getting started today is a lot easier than it was at one time, and that means you've already got an audience for your knowledge and experience. The point I'm making is this. Every step into the unknown is a step towards the new you, and I'd also say, a "better" you. So, dare to step out, and watch your potential unfold. 🎯 Facts alone, missed target. Stories, bullseye. This will change the way you post forever. Someone who read a post of mine recently asked me "Is it too much to use storytelling in every piece of my content?" Here's a quick insight from my personal experience of this. After facing 3 setbacks in my first 5 years in my business for myself, I found success by sharing personal stories in ebooks I wrote and sold, rather than just facts. This approach significantly boosted my sales. Why? Because storytelling is a powerful way to connect with an audience, whether you want to ... ☑ share an idea. ☑ introduce yourself. ☑ introduce a topic. ☑ tell them how you do what you do. ...and more. Unless you totally flub it up, your personal experiences will make your message more relatable and engaging, because facts tell, stories sell, even if it's just an idea you're selling. Did you notice what I just did there? I told you a mini story to convey my message. Always remember, the best person to tell your story is you, not even AI can tell your story like you do. Do you believe we all have things of value to offer the world in one form or another? I do. For most people, the most basic form is through coaching or mentoring, changing lives, transforming businesses and the people within them. This picture was taken at a business and leadership coaching event for one of our clients back in 2013 (time flies!). When I looked at the picture, there's a basic truth about using what you know and who you are to change lives or transform businesses as a coach, consultant, leader or team member that struck me. You already possess what you need to make a difference in someone else's life or within an organization, but YOU need to believe this to be true about YOU to make anything happen. If you want to coach, mentor, consult, change lives, transform businesses or lead and experience ultimate flexibility in your life, it's not about certifications, awards or endorsements by others. You must endorse yourself first and go ahead and get better as you get results in the real world. If someone like me, a professional with zero formal, fancy qualifications, but who has real world experience of getting results for clients can do it, you can too. *I failed 3 times in my first 5 years of going solo by the way!!!
