German participants of a four-day week trial gave hair samples, wore smartwatches, and tracked their sleep to give an alternative view of the benefits of a shortened working week, and the results are promising. https://lnkd.in/e5JkfiBC A study of 45 German companies by 4 Day Week Global (4DWG) took a widespread view of the benefits of a four-day week, with previous studies focusing on things like company revenue, attrition, and perceptions of burnout. Japanese automaker Nissan on Thursday announced 9,000 job cuts as it slashed its annual sales forecast, saying it was taking urgent measures to tackle “a severe situation”. https://lnkd.in/e7EVhqBX The company reported a 93 percent plunge in net profit in the first half as CEO Makoto Uchida told reporters that weak sales in the North American market were a major factor. The length of time between Black Friday and Christmas morning in 2024 is the shortest it has been in five years, with just 27 shopping days this year. https://lnkd.in/ew-TQGdn That’s causing some families to deck the halls in early November—and several retailers to launch Black Friday early. Just one week into November, many of the biggest retailers have already shown their hand. Walmart has announced its pre-Black Friday deals, as has Target. A Southern California wildfire has destroyed 132 structures, mostly homes, in less than two days, fire officials said Thursday as raging winds were forecast to ease. https://lnkd.in/ejRRtXAw The fire started Wednesday morning in Ventura County and has grown to about 32 square miles (83 square kilometers) at 5% containment. Its cause has not been determined. Ten people have been injured in the course of the fire, Ventura County Sheriff James Fryhoff said.
