    ⛰️ Backcountry Business Lessons 𝘷.4 ⛰️ Adirondack Mtns: Loj to trailless Tabletop Mtn (4,427’, #19 in 46) and back, solo. Pic 1: 🖼️ Pre-call Planning is critical. 👉 Even with a map and compass, trailless peaks (and new business relationships) WILL present unanticipated challenges. Take as many of these off the table by anticipating them. Pic. 2: 🖼️ USE THE CRM! 👉 Pretty sure I’ve lost it now. Introducing the Backcountry CRM… It holds critical info on travel, route, conditions and is the single most important piece of accountability.  Pic. 3: 🖼️ Ignore it at your own risk... 👉 A quick glance or, “necessary stop” at the CRM is not sufficient. Read it all, take it in, be prepared.  Your experience will be improved. So will that of your customer, and the local bear population. Pic. 4: 🖼️ Slow down, ask questions. 👉 This image show several markers that indicate the “trailless” herd path up Tabletop. The trick is to know when to stop and ask questions to uncover the markers (grip marks on trees, exposed rock underfoot). When you’re not clear on the direction of a conversation, slow it down and ask questions. Not all herd paths lead to the summit, make sure you’re on the right one. Pic. 5: 🖼️ Celebrate having your head in the clouds. 👉 I’m often asked how to keep moving forward among the many times and ways one hears “No” when practicing SalesCraft. My reply is almost always to set as many opportunities to WIN as possible. Ensure that your Metrics that Matter are attainable!  Pic. 6: 🖼️ Grit is earned, and the weight of today’s makes the next trip lighter. 👉 Tabletop Mtn (as the name would imply) is a bit flat and hence a mud bog atop. Being prepared allows one to “Walk right through it” as advised. It’s also tons of fun to blast through the stuff as sneaker-toed nimble feet try to dance around it. My point is that under the fresh stuff is a layer of embedded earth from trips past. It’s the past trips that prove the ability to take on the next one. Be mindful of your mud. It’ll take you far. 🗺️ Estimated 11+ miles. 2:30 up, 2:10 down. 🗺️

    ⛰ Backcountry Business Lessons v.3 ⛰ Adirondack Mtns: AMR Trailhead to Dial Mtn (4,020', #41 in 46) and Nippletop (4,620, #13 in 46) loop with Things 1 and 2. As detailed in the topo map of the trail (and numbered), some goals require achieving "smaller" summits, followed immediately by a loss of ground/elevation only to have to make it back up to gain the next peak along the way. Grit is an oft-called upon trait on this platform, and I support that. In the spirit of "yes, and", I'll add that the detailed prep and anticipation of obstacles bolsters this quality. I equate it to pre-call planning as part of the practice of SalesCraft. I'm often surprised at how little "true" pre-call planning is done. Knowing the details of the customer and what they deal with will allow for an understanding of the terrain and give you the opportunity to plan. Spend the time to prep, study the contour lines, and work the plan! Oh, and bring your daughters every chance you get! 🗺 Estimated 15 miles. 8 hours 🗺

    Here’s a local CNY tale of two companies… improving what we do and the value we provide our clients: It's about local collaboration through networking, sharing ideas, and being open to considering alternative viewpoints. Long story short, I met Nicholas Johnson from Ataviz Consulting at a networking event that he and a mutual colleague Jason Klink spearheaded a year or so ago. We've remained in contact and more recently I read some of his valuable content around taking a data-oriented approach to customer profiling, called Customer Segmentation and RFM Analysis. (Linked in Comments) I found it to be an accurate description of what I've (non-scientifically) been calling Target Profile (Avatar) Creation and Lead Scoring. Inspired by Nick's insights, I reached out to propose a different perspective to his method; one less reliant on scientific verbiage, more attuned to the audience I engage with. His receptivity and readiness to collaborate sparked the birth of the image you see here. It's a fresh approach to creating new business while maintaining an unwavering eye on the critical significance of customer retention. In the grand scheme of networking and collaboration, it's essential not to overlook the value of alternative viewpoints.
