Every year, The Ohio State University, Franklin University, and Columbus State Community College all team up to run a service-learning project in their financial planning courses. This Financial Planning Community Project matches two financial planning students with a local financial advisor to offer Pro Bono financial planning sessions to a student who has financial questions or problems. We need your help to make this highly impactful project succeed! A fantastic group of CFPs has already signed up to volunteer. However, we still need at least 10 additional financial advisors this semester because student enrollment in financial planning courses has grown so quickly. This is only a 2 hour commitment. We can work around your schedule, and all you need to do is offer your time and expertise. Your Pro Bono engagement will directly benefit both financial planning students and student clients, helping us to cultivate new talent and strengthen the financial planning industry. As Kevin R. Keller, CAE, CEO of the CFP Board recently explained, inspiring the next generation of CFP® professionals is a critical issue today. This program addresses the significant talent gap that exists in the field, increasing awareness of financial planning as a career and building new student capacity. To sign up, please email Katherine Klausing, Project Manager, at Klausing.19@osu.edu and let her know of your interest. If you are not available, please consider recommending a colleague or introducing your firm’s HR manager. Financial planners at any stage in their careers—young professionals, mid-career, retired—are all welcome. Thank you for supporting the next generation of financial planners! Best wishes, The Financial Planning Community Project Team Caezilia Loibl, Dr. Martina Peng, CFP, Jack Popovich, and Katherine Klausing.
