Sorry not sorry! Had to borrow this from Michael Klemmer today and be "that guy" he hints about in his post... No shame! In the "Poor Management" the "leader" sits up front in the wagon, barking orders from a safe distance. They’re focused on results, yes, but without investing any real connection to the team pulling the weight. It's efficient, sure, but no one feels truly valued. The team grows tired, and morale slowly erodes because everyone feels like they're just doing the heavy lifting while the boss rides along. In "Good Management" the leader has hopped off the wagon, walking alongside the team. They share the work, and there’s a sense of unity. The leader gives guidance, but it’s clear they’re part of the effort, building mutual respect and a sense of shared accomplishment. It's organized, supportive, and productive, a classic servant leadership approach. Then we come to the military approach, or at least the more PC version. Here, everyone’s in the trenches together… but it’s pure chaos. One leader thinks the wagon should go left, another thinks right. Meanwhile, two other team members have decided they’ll just carry the wagon altogether, while a fifth member is running ahead, convinced they know the best route. People are lifting, pulling, pushing, and even giving pep talks, but there’s no clear direction, and everyone’s doing a bit of everything. The mission might get accomplished, but only after a lot of shouting, confusion, and sheer willpower. **cough cough, 82nd, cough cough** It’s the kind of organized chaos that can sometimes work in the military world, where improvisation and adaptability are key. In a civilian workplace, that lack of clarity can lead to burnout, miscommunication, and a team that feels like they’re in a whirlwind with no clear destination. While the “military leadership” style can be heroic, the reality is that effective teams need direction, cohesion, and shared objectives. At FRAGO22, we aim to help organizations balance structure with adaptability, making sure the mission is clear and every team member knows their role in driving it forward.
