I wanted to give an update on the latest with California’s SB 919 legislation. I know it’s been a while, but I wanted to be thorough and have my legal team review the changes before sharing my thoughts. Governor Newsom has until September 30th to sign the bill, but even if it’s signed, it still needs to pass financial viability checks. Thanks to your incredible outreach, we’ve already seen some important changes to the bill. One major win is the removal of the requirement to disclose personal contact details of past franchisees—this would have been a serious privacy concern. They also redefined “material change,” raising the bar for what needs to be disclosed, avoiding unnecessary confusion and risk. While these are great steps forward, we still have work to do. We’re pushing for more reasonable reporting requirements—using last year’s data instead of real-time updates, which could lead to mistakes and unfair liabilities. We’re also asking for clear distinctions between franchise brokers and FSSOs in the official documents to avoid misrepresentation. We’re making progress, but we need to keep the pressure on. If you haven’t signed the opposition letter yet, please do—it only takes a minute, and we need to show strong opposition to the bill in its current form. Brokers need your voice now more than ever. Together, we can make a difference. #franchisebrokersassociation #franchiseba #franchisebroker #fba #sabrinawall #franchiseindustry #businessindustry #franchisecommunity #franchisesupport #stayinformed #franchiseregulations #leadership #franchise #franchisor #franchisee #franchisealert #protectfranchising #californiaSB919 #SB919 #CA919 #california919 #franchiselaw #franchiseawareness #franchiselaws

This is a call to action. Regarding the CA SB 919 legislation and the Responsible franchising initiative. There is a difference between the headline VS the details behind the headline. We teach franchise brokers and their candidates that when they are researching a franchise - they need to look beyond the headline and hype and into the franchise's track record. Here - we are doing the same thing. The headline of Responsible Franchising and removing bad actors is a worthy goal. However, the details of the bill's language and its consequences are what we are discussing here. These are TWO separate issues. The bill, currently on Governor Newsom’s desk, was created without true representation from the affected stakeholders—brokers and FSOs. The legislatures office instructed me to send in an Opposition Letter to ensure Franchise Brokers positions are heard. An opposition letter is being sent to the governor and legislature, urging changes in the bill’s language and the Uniform Document’s language to ensure it’s workable, fair, and focused on truly bad actors. Without these changes, brokers may stop operating in California, leaving smaller franchisors (under 500 units) and franchisees without the support they need to thrive. This is a call to action—franchise brokers must protect their industry and speak up to ensure reasonable, manageable legislation. IT ONLY TAKES ONE MINUTE TO MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD. In 24 hours, we already have 250 signatures, and that list is growing every minute!!!! To learn about the legislation, we have a wealth of information on our website. Visit https://hubs.li/Q02PMFln0 to learn more. If you are an FBA member you can sign the opposition letter here. Franchisors, vendors and friends, please support your broker relationships here as well and sign if you agree with our concerns. https://hubs.li/Q02PMqrs0 If you are a non-FBA member, you can sign this general opposition statement. https://hubs.li/Q02PMq_-0 We are sending the updated list of those opposed to the current language to the governor every night. If you agree, sign the opposition letter now and help bring about necessary changes to SB 919. This is a critical time in our industries history. Be brave and ask for the necessary changes to make this workable. #franchisebrokersassociation #franchiseba #franchisebroker #fba #sabrinawall #franchisecommunity #franchisesupport #stayinformed #franchiseregulations #leadership #franchise #franchisor #franchisee #franchisealert #protectfranchising #californiaSB919 #SB919 #franchiserule #franchiselaw #franchiseawareness #franchiselaws

  • Are you using shame to control your behavior? Many of us resort to shame and blame, thinking they’ll push us to be our best. But that’s simply not true. I once heard a political commentator say, "We all need a little bit of shame. It motivates us to act with character." At the time, I agreed. But years later, I realized the fallacy in that statement. It took releasing a lot of fear to see that shame and blame are not the tools we need—they're actually some of the most useless emotions. Shame and blame will only hold you back, keeping you stuck in suffering and away from the light. They don’t improve outcomes; they just perpetuate pain. When you let go of shame and choose to love yourself instead, you’ll see those old tools weren’t working—they were just keeping you trapped. So, the next time shame creeps in, ask yourself: "Can I let go of shaming myself and choose to love myself instead?" Through this choice to love, even you, many wonderful things will begin to emerge. Remember, you don’t need shame to motivate you. You need love—self-love. It’s time to put down those rusty old tools and step into your powerful potential. #franchisebrokersassociation #franchiseba #fba #sabrinawall #leadership #leadershipdevelopment #leadershipskill #leadershipquotes #selflove #letgoshame #chooselove #motivatewithlove #emotionalwellbeing #selfacceptance #personalgrowth

As of this recording, the outcome of California SB 919 remains uncertain, but our work is far from over. If the bill passes, we'll focus on refining the uniform third-party seller disclosure document and ensuring states grasp its impact on franchising. If it doesn’t pass, we still need to find alternative solutions. What’s interesting is that this initiative wasn’t driven by regulators but by groups like the IFA, AAFD, and the Coalition of Franchisees. They sponsored the legislation and highlighted areas needing regulation. We’ve analyzed and compared California SB 919 with similar laws in New York and Washington. Despite being presented as similar, California’s bill has 18 key differences, like requiring brokers to get insurance and bonding, update disclosures in real time, and imposing additional liabilities. Does this sound the same to you? Let us know your thoughts, and remember: you are the leader we’ve been waiting for. Click the heart below and follow me if you’re ready to step into your potential and lead with courage. —-- UPDATES ON THE CALIFORNIA SB 919 —---- There were changes to the CA SB 919 after this was recorded!!! The personal contact information IS NO LONGER REQUIRED. It moved to reporting the number of franchises awarded per brand. Personal privacy information violation NO LONGER APPLIES. NO LONGER APPLIES - They defined franchise broker differently and now it is easier to keep funding sources, lead sites, and accountants out of the definition of a franchise broker. They removed the term Third Party Franchise Seller. Additional legal analysis on the changes is underway and we will update you with the most recent information once that has concluded. #franchisebrokersassociation #franchiseba #fba #franchiselife #sabrinawall #leadership #franchiseindustry #businessindustry #franchisecommunity #franchisesupport #stayinformed #franchise #franchisor #franchisee #franchisealert #protectfranchising #SB919 #franchiselaw #franchiseawareness #franchiselaws

  • We had an amazing time on the lake, thanks to Voda Franchise for sponsoring this incredible event! That’s some impressive growth! As we gear up for our upcoming conference in November, we’re excited about the value brands like Voda bring. Dan highlighted how attending industry events is crucial—Voda did 12 units in three weeks through the Franchise Brokers Association (FBA), with 80% of candidates at one of their Discovery Days coming from FBA brokers. Investing in these opportunities and building strong relationships is key to success in franchising. A huge thank you to Voda Franchise for their continued partnership. • You have to give up your fear. If you're going to step into your full potential, fear can't lead the way. It’s time to ask yourself, what is fear really doing for you? Have you ever paused to examine its purpose? Let’s break it down: Fear makes you feel small, saps your confidence, and feeds you lies. It stirs up fights that don’t need to be fought. It dims your light and leaves you exhausted. Fear does nothing of value, yet many of us protect it. We hold onto it, letting it define us, allowing it to become our identity. But in doing so, we sacrifice the highest parts of ourselves, exchanging our brilliance for shadows. It's time to stop. It's time to start choosing higher, awakening to our true potential, and letting go of the fear that once held us captive. We are not our fear. We are so much more. Today, choose to rise above. Choose to let go of the fear that no longer serves you. Step into your power, embrace your potential, and shine brightly. You owe it to yourself to be free, to be fearless, and to live fully. Fear may have been a part of your journey, but it doesn't have to define your destination. The moment you release it, you open the door to endless possibilities. Let go, step up, and embrace your true potential. The world is waiting for your light. #franchisebrokersassociation #franchiseba #fba #sabrinawall #overcomefear #embraceyourpotential #letgooffear #riseabove #shinebright #befearless #truepotential #livefully #endlesspossibilities #leadership #leadershipdevelopment

When it comes to funding a franchise, two common strategies are SBA loans and 401k rollovers. SBA Loans: These government-backed loans provide flexible financing for franchise purchases, covering 80-90% of the total cost. For a $300,000 franchise, a down payment between 11.1% and 30% is typically required.* SBA loans are ideal for individuals with a credit score of 680 or higher. The down payment can be used toward franchise fees and other startup expenses, making it a popular option for many entrepreneurs. 401k Rollovers: A 401k rollover allows you to use your retirement savings to fund your franchise without early withdrawal penalties or taxes. This strategy can offer significant tax advantages while giving you the ability to actively invest in a franchise. By converting your 401k into a working asset, you have the potential to grow your investment while minimizing risk. Both funding strategies offer unique benefits depending on your financial situation and long-term goals. SBA loans provide access to large amounts of capital with favorable terms, while 401k rollovers let you tap into existing retirement funds without incurring tax penalties, allowing you to take control of your financial future. With franchise opportunities starting around $100,000 and typical down payments of 20-30%, aspiring franchise owners have several options to consider when exploring financing solutions.
