In honor of #WorldCancerResearchDay, we wanted to share a few snapshots of the #CancerResearch happening at FNL. We do basic, translational, and clinical cancer research. We provide services and resources for researchers, innovate technology and processes critical to cancer research, and work on projects that help lead to drug discovery. This includes: ⚛️ The Nanotechnology Characterization Laboratory, which serves as a resource and knowledge base for researchers to facilitate development and clinical translation of nanotechnologies intended as cancer therapeutics and diagnostics. ⚛️ The Molecular Immunology Section, which studies gene regulation, seeking to better understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms of natural killer (NK) cell development and function to ultimately design novel antitumor therapies. ⚛️ The Advanced Cryo-Electron Microscopy Technology Group, which explores emerging imaging platforms and develops methodologies, focusing on projects with the potential to make cryo-EM a more widely accessible technique. This work supports the National Cryo-Electron Microscopy Facility, which provides extramural cancer researchers access to the latest technology for high-resolution imaging. ⚛️ The Biopharmaceutical Development Program, which is engineering cells into cancer-killers that are being used to treat children and young adults participating in early-phase pediatric cancer trials. The treatment is called chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy. ⚛️ The Cancer Immunoprevention Laboratory, which develops and tests novel cancer preventive agents, including vaccines, chemoprevention agents, and small molecules, in mouse models. The team develops preventive cancer vaccines for specific high-risk populations, such as people with Lynch syndrome, would build pre-emptive anticancer immunity before disease onset. ⚛️ The RAS Initiative, which mobilizes the cancer research community to develop ways to treat cancers driven by the mutant RAS gene in an open model of collaboration among government, academic, and industry researchers. This barely covers the full scope of our cancer and #BiomedicalResearch. Learn more on our website: https://lnkd.in/e6VaXaV
