We serve Black single mothers and women, often erased from gun violence advocacy, as a public safety infrastructure.

About us

Free Root Operation addresses the root causes of gun violence through wellness programming, cultural activations, and a method of critical care, which are substantiated by research centering community wisdom. We take an innovative approach that serves as the nexus between championing Black women and their families and preventative measures of poverty-induced gun violence that demands integration into culture. Our operation is to restore communities impacted by poverty-induced gun violence to safe, abundant, and liberated sites of Oasis. We enact this work through our BLOOM Program, a 6-month wellness program rooted in the pillars of self-love, nourishment, and transformation. In order to graduate from the program, participants complete an educational and experiential curriculum of programming that cultivates a positive mental, physical, and spiritual relationship within themselves. This creates the conditions for bodily and environmental nourishment such that they are transformed and can create an impact on their families and broader communities

Tomorrow is Juneteenth, and I would like to provide non-Black allies with an opportunity to truly celebrate the holiday. I’m calling on you to turn your paid time off for Juneteenth into reparations by donating to my non-profit Free Root Operation. We have over 1,800 women in our service base who expressed a NEED for our wellness programming. With your help, we can make a change in their lives and the lives of their children and families. If you can’t contribute, sharing this post is also impactful! Your contribution will allow us to expand our BLOOM Cohort: a six-month wellness program providing moms and women with 10 hours of individual counseling, 3 family counseling sessions, over 20 wellness events, and 60 hours of in-person support. BLOOM has been proven successful and improves the ability of moms to be even more effective parents, community pillars, and stewards of safer communities by giving them the wellness and economic development resources to care for themselves first. I would be remiss not to re-center the descendants of enslaved Africans within Juneteenth, a day marking when people learned they had been freed two years prior, on June 19th, 1865. Juneteenth is not just a federal holiday, it is a call to action to reconcile with our history. We celebrate by doing better. In the words of Brittany Packnett-Cunningham, “You are a mutual partner in the pursuit of freedom.” To celebrate Juneteenth with me, consider donating your paid time off wages here: https://bit.ly/supportfro #Entrepreneur #Founder #SocialImpact #BlackLinkedIn #Wellness #Chicago
