✨ Reflecting on an Inspiring Evening: Beauty in Brokenness ✨ We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us at the Beauty in Brokenness storytelling event, hosted by Freely in Hope in partnership with Lava Latte in Nairobi, Kenya. It was a fun, inspiring and memorable evening. Our theme, inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi, reminded us that embracing and repairing our struggles with love makes us stronger and more beautiful. We were honored to share and listen to stories of healing, courage, and transformation within our community. Highlights from the Event 🌟 Trizah Gakwa, our Africa Regional Director, shared her powerful personal journey, highlighting the importance of making the world safer for women and girls. 🌟 Velma, one of our scholars, shared her experiences and the significance of holistic education. 🌟 Stellah, an alumna, spoke about her career path and the support she received along the way. 🌟 A joyful dance session led by Franco from ChezaCheza reminded us of the power of community and movement. 🌟 Maryanne, our Child Protection Coordinator, shared her vision for a safer world for children. It was inspiring to see just how universal and yet deeply personal our experiences are and to be reminded of the power of community in supporting each other to thrive. According to the World Health Organization, there is a direct link between a lack of access to education and sexual violence. In communities of poverty, girls are more vulnerable to sexual assault. After her father’s passing, Osikol’s uncle promised to take care of their family and provide them with education. But the uncle sexually assaulted Osikol in exchange for school fees. Osikol fled her uncle’s home to live with her mother again. With the support of Freely in Hope, Osikol pursued a bachelor's degree in law. Today, Osikol is using her voice and legal expertise to advocate for other girls affected by sexual violence, embodying the spirit of survivor leadership that defines our scholars at Freely in Hope. According to Girls Not Brides, 29% of girls are married by 18 in Zambia. Magdalene is a Freely in Hope alumni and Child Protection Coordinator in Zambia who stands at the forefront of this battle. Armed with a BA in Development Studies, Magdalene’s dream is to provide programs for girls who have been rescued from prostitution, are at risk of being sexually abused, and have no one to fight for them.
