  • We have entered peak season and fraud continues to be on the rise. Overhaul recorded 371 cargo theft events across the country during the first quarter. This marked a 38% increase compared with the same time period the year prior. The most common type was full truckload theft at 33%, followed by facility theft at 27%, and pilferages at 25%. Check out our advice for mitigating risk: 🛑 Verify carrier and broker MC and DOT authority in FMCSA. 🛑 Verify carriers using other monitoring tools such as TIA Watchdog, RMIS, MyCarrierPortal, Highway, Carrier Assure, etc.). 🛑 Verify carrier COI's directly from the insurance provider. 🛑 Implement safety measures and equipment to safeguard freight (i.e. seals, specialized locks, GPS tracking, etc.). 🛑 Never leave keys behind, trucks unlocked, or unattended. 🛑 Use 360 cameras and mirrors. 🛑 Ask questions and investigate if something doesn't feel right. #trucking #freight #fraud #logistics #transportation #freightfemsolutions

  • 🔊 BREAKING NEWS 🔊 Port Strike Ends as Dockworkers Agree to Tentative Deal 👍 Striking members of the International Longshoremen’s Association have agreed to return to work at East Coast and Gulf Coast ports on Friday, the union announced tonight, as it and the United States Maritime Alliance have reached a tentative agreement on wages. 👍 The ILA announced union members will be back on the job while the final details are worked out for a full agreement, which would then need to be ratified by the rank-and-file workers. #THANKGOODNESS #TRANSPORTATION #FREIGHT #LOGISTICS #PORTS #DOCKWORKERS #SUPPLYCHAIN

  • 🚢 45,000 dockworkers who went on strike Tuesday for the first time in decades at 36 U.S. ports from Maine to Texas may have the upper hand in their standoff with port operators over wages and the use of automation. 🚢 Organized labor enjoys rising public support and has had a string of recent victories in other industries, in addition to the backing of the Biden administration. 🚢 The dockworkers’ negotiating stand is likely further strengthened by the pressure on the nation’s supply chain in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, which has coincided with the holiday shipping season. 🚢 Commerce into and out of the United States has been growing, playing to the union’s advantage. Further enhancing its leverage is an ongoing tight job market, with workers in some industries demanding, and in some cases receiving, a larger share of companies’ outsize profits. We hope fair negotiations continue on both sides to finalize an agreement asap. #transportation #ports #freight #trucking #logistics

  • Tens of thousands of longshoremen officially went on strike at midnight on Tuesday, shutting down major ports along the U.S. East and Gulf coasts that handle more than half of the country’s trade in cargo containers. This includes the Port of New York and New Jersey, the nation’s third-largest port by volume of cargo handled. “Nothing’s going to move without us,” Harold Daggett, international president of ILA said. “They can’t survive too long.” The industry is already faced with high costs on top of inflation. We hope both sides come to an agreement very soon and the Biden administration is ready to invoke the Taft-Hartley Act, if necessary. #ports #containers #transportation #trucking #freight #logistics #freightfem

  • ⚖ Navigating FMCSA Legislation: Essential Insights for Carriers ⚖ The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) plays a crucial role in regulating the trucking industry in the United States. Staying updated with FMCSA legislation is vital for carriers to ensure compliance and maintain operational efficiency. Here are some key regulations that carriers should be aware of: 🚚 Hours of Service (HOS) Regulations Purpose: To prevent driver fatigue and ensure road safety. Key Points: ▶ 11-Hour Driving Limit: Drivers can drive a maximum of 11 hours after 10 consecutive hours off duty. ▶ 14-Hour Limit: Drivers cannot drive beyond the 14th consecutive hour after coming on duty, following 10 consecutive hours off duty. ▶ 30-Minute Break: Drivers must take a 30-minute break after 8 cumulative hours of driving without at least a 30-minute interruption. 🚚 Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) Purpose: To improve compliance with HOS regulations. Key Points: ▶ Mandatory Use: All commercial drivers must use ELDs to record their driving hours. ▶ Data Transfer: ELDs must be capable of transferring data to law enforcement during roadside inspections. 🚚 Drug and Alcohol Testing Purpose: To ensure that drivers are not impaired while operating commercial vehicles. Key Points: ▶ Pre-Employment Testing: Mandatory drug testing before hiring drivers. ▶ Random Testing: Carriers must conduct random drug and alcohol tests throughout the year. ▶ Post-Accident Testing: Required after certain types of accidents. 🚚 Driver Qualification Files (DQF) Purpose: To ensure drivers meet the necessary qualifications and maintain a safe driving record. Key Points: ▶ Contents: DQFs must include employment application, driving records, medical certificates, and annual reviews. ▶ Retention: Carriers must retain DQFs for the duration of the driver’s employment and for three years thereafter. 🚚 Vehicle Maintenance and Inspection Purpose: To ensure commercial vehicles are safe to operate. Key Points: ▶ Regular Inspections: Carriers must conduct regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs. ▶ Record Keeping: Maintenance records must be kept for at least one year and for six months after the vehicle leaves the carrier’s control. 🚚 Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) Purpose: To ensure that carriers operating in interstate commerce are properly registered and insured. Key Points: ▶ Annual Registration: Carriers must register and pay fees annually based on the size of their fleet. ▶ Compliance: Failure to comply can result in fines and penalties. Staying compliant with FMCSA regulations ensures the safety of drivers and the public. Carriers should regularly review and update their policies to align with the latest FMCSA requirements. By doing so, they can maintain a safe and efficient operation, contributing to the overall safety of the transportation industry. #trucking #transportation #logistics #fmcsa #freightfem #owneroperator

  • 🙌 Small Businesses Win! 🙌 NLRB Drops Joint Employer Rule In a complete victory for business and workers, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) dropped its appeal of a federal court decision blocking its joint employer rule. Details: In November 2023, the Chamber, along with a coalition of business groups, sued the NLRB over this regulation, and in March, a U.S. District Court vacated the rule before it could be implemented. The NLRB appealed this decision. Why it matters: By curbing government micromanagement, the decision allows businesses of all sizes—including franchises, contractors, and their employees—to maintain the freedom to operate effectively for their customers while supporting their workforce. Under the NLRB’s rule, businesses would have been held liable for workers they didn’t employ at workplaces they didn’t own or control.
