Thanks to Ryan Williams from our sales team for arranging the visit by Jonathan Orpin and his crew from New Energy Works who visited our facility recently to learn more about our Mass Ply products. New Energy is a design, build firm specializing in timber framing. We look forward to working with them in the future. 🙌 #FreresWood #MassPly

About us
This family owned and operated business started with one man and a dream back in 1922. And it’s kept going to this day by always looking at things in a new way. From the expansion of plywood after World War II to today’s revolutionary Mass Ply, even how we grow and harvest our wood, we’ve never been one to sit still with the status quo. You’ll always find us pushing forward for what we’re confident will be the next 100 years. 👉 Scientists. Naturalists. Loggers. We’re proof they can all happily co-exist. We were born and raised among the trees. So we do everything we can to protect them. Following the Oregon Forest Practices Act we use scientifically- supported methods to sustainably harvest and replant the Douglas Fir trees on our 17,000 acres of timberland. And we respect our natural resources using every part of the wood from lumber, to veneer, to fuel. The result is a certification by the American Tree Farm System (ATFS). Our companies include Freres Lumber Co., Inc, Freres Timber, and Evergreen BioPower LLC. Freres Lumber has two manufacturing locations in the Santiam Canyon. Freres Timber owns and operates over 17,000 acres of timberland, primarily located in the Santiam Canyon. Harvesting is performed on a sustained yield basis, and is managed to provide high quality timber for current and future generations.

We attended the Grand Opening of the Ty Hart Memorial Fitness Center structure honoring the fallen marine at Stayton High School. Ty was a dedicated athlete and supporter of the high school. We're proud that our Mass Ply is part of this building that will support future athletes and athletics for many years to come. #FreresWood #StaytonHighSchool #TyHart

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen some encouraging signs in the market. Prices have firmed up across the board, rising slightly, with potential for more increases on the horizon. It’s not a runaway, but the combination of just-in-time buying and steady demand has given the market a boost. See more about this past month’s stretch, and what we have to look forward to, in this month's Market Update on our blog. 👇 #FreresWood #MarketUpdate

We are excited to be wrapping up the final pieces of our new plywood warehouse, which is constructed solely from our Mass Ply panels and lams. 👏 The PVC roof was installed by Pfeifer Roofing, Inc. Electrical work was performed by Northside Electric. The steel siding was provided by Salem Heating And Sheet Metal, Inc. II-S MECHANICAL, INC. completed the plumbing work and Western States Fire Protection installed the sprinkler system. Prime Contracting finished off with a beautiful edge-grained accent wall in our loading area. Thanks to all of our subcontractors for their work on project. Final thanks to CD Redding Construction for hosting a barbecue for local architects and engineers to showcase the project! 👍 #FreresWood #WoodStructure

🎥 Check out these behind-the-scenes shots of the Sea Legs Media video crew in action. They're capturing the story behind the new Portland Airport terminal, featuring our Mass Ply. 👏 Special thanks to Chris Neal from the Port of Portland and Christian Schoewe from ZGF Architects for sharing their insights. Thank you to Jacob Bailey and Bailey Beltramo for bringing this story to life. And big shoutout to Matthew Swain Photography for capturing these shots. #PDXNext #MassTimber #MassPly

We hosted a large group associated with BLD Connection representing a large group of distribution yards from the mid-West. 👏 It is always good to connect with end consumers across the US. Thank you all for your interest. We enjoyed answering all their questions and taking an extended tour through all of our operations! 🙌 #FreresWood #WoodIsGood

A big thank you to our maintenance crew and our cogeneration plant employees who helped with the installation of a BM&M Screening Solutions Ltd. test screen that is in development to produce a high-quality biochar, which we intend to market to the agricultural industry. 🙌 The screen and related equipment separates ash and other debris from our residual screen, leaving a char product that is more than 70% carbon. This product is put back into the soil to sequester the carbon for decades, but also provides other agronomic benefits. The biochar is itself a product of our cogeneration process, which generates about 7.2 MW for the local electrical grid from wood debris, which is enough electricity to power 5,000 homes. Refer to USBI for more information on biochar. #FreresWood #Biochar

Thank you for coming! We really enjoyed this tour. 👏 We especially liked what a key director stated, "We're not here to just look at the land, we're here to promote working landscapes." #FreresWood #WoodIsGood
🚶➡️🪵 Building Knowledge — Out and About 🪵🚶 We carved some time out of our September Land Conservation and Development Commission meeting to tour Freres Wood in Lyons, Oregon. Freres Wood is a family owned and operated business that produces mass timber products. Mass timber is made by combining thin layers of wood to create a high-density product, as strong as steel and concrete. Kyle Freres and Rob Freres taught commissioners and department staff about mass timber while showing us around the facilities. They took us through step by step, from logs to mass timber to constructed buildings. Mass timber differs from traditional lumber in ways that can support improved forestry practices by sourcing from lands that are being managed for conservation goals, supporting forest restoration and wildfire management. Mass timber also minimizes production waste. DLCD is working with local governments to update development codes to allow and encourage mass timber prefabricated and modular housing. Freres Wood reposted this
"Prioritizing sustainability throughout this project, Opsis and JA utilized various innovative features to achieve design and efficiency goals. Mass Plywood Panels (MPP) made from climate-resilient wood emphasize a deep commitment to eco-friendly design, and the building's energy needs are met through air-source heat pumps for efficient heating and cooling. This highly efficient building aligns perfectly with Redmond’s Climate Emergency Declaration goals, demonstrating a commitment to carbon neutrality." You can read all about the City of Redmond, WA Senior & Community Center, and the collaboration between Opsis Architecture and JA to create this aspirational and sustainable facility, on Archello.
