Friends of Strays Animal Shelter is St. Petersburg’s oldest no-kill animal shelter. Founded in 1978, our top priority is to connect animals in need of rescue with people who will love them. With thousands of cats and dogs entering our shelter every year, Friends of Strays’ staff and volunteers provide the utmost love and care for every animal that comes through our doors. Through our outreach, advocacy, and services, we strive to ensure that animal companionship is accessible to all. In addition to pet adoption, we seek to create a better world for pets and people by focusing on life saving programs promoting pet retention, community empowerment, and humane pet ownership education. Friends of Strays is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our lifesaving success is only possible by the support of friends like you. MISSION Our mission is to inspire compassion for all animals, provide shelter and humane care to homeless animals, and promote adoptions and responsible pet guardianship in our community. VISION Through our efforts, there will be a safe and loving home for every adoptable animal and humane treatment for all.

What an amazing day! We felt so supported for the Cat Box grand opening with so many of our friends, volunteers, fosters, donors, and community leaders coming together to celebrate the first part of our Schwartz Family Adoption Campus expansion project. Thank you! And a big thank you to the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce for bringing the big scissors to make it official. The Cat Box is now open at 3015 46th Ave. N, St. Petersburg FL 33714. It's just one street south of our current facility. Come in and check out the new place!

💙💚 Friends of Strays is proud to announce we will be opening The Cat Box, our NEW cat adoptions center, on July 1! 💚💙 This new space will be completely separate from dog adoptions to provide calm, diversified environments for our adoptable cats while they wait for their new homes. The Cat Box, 3015 46th Ave. N, St. Petersburg, is just a block south from our current location at 2911 47th Ave. N. Our dogs will remain at our current shelter... but dogs will get an upgrade in the future, too!
