Impacting generational change by pairing youth facing great obstacles with a caring, professional mentor.
About us
Friends of the Children - Colorado Springs is part of a national network of Friends of the Children chapters across the United States. Friends of the Children connects children – all of whom have unique talents – to a paid, professional mentor called a Friend. We hire and train Friends whose full-time jobs are to support our youth to succeed, despite the extremely challenging situations most experience, from as early as age 4 through high school graduation – 12+ years, no matter what. Our full-time, salaried mentors support youth to: 1) be prepared for post-secondary education and/or employment 2) develop positive goals for the future 3) develop a healthy lifestyle To Learn More: info@friendscoloradosprings.org or 719.649.6438

We start teaching about budgets early and by having fun! Our Friend (professional mentor), Sarah, says "Picnics are a favorite summer activity for my girls and shopping the fresh produce aisles looking for new fruits and veg to try out lets us practice staying within a budget." At Friends of the Children - Colorado Springs we are dedicated to serving the children in our program by creating relationships and sharing information that will help them throughout their entire lives.

Lets talk about our busy summer! A look back at some of the moments we experienced this summer! As we return to school, we look back over the summer we spent with our program’s children. Over such a short period we did so many different things! Here are just a few of the great activities that occurred. Neve accessed her artistic side through a glorious afternoon picking out a craft with her Friend (Professional Mentor) and then chatted in the sunshine while she made something beautiful. Neve painted a tote bag with fabric bubble paints. She was so proud of her creation! Learning how to make decisions is one of the many things we work on with the children. Marcus learned to ride a bike! Marcus was very excited but a little hesitant about learning to ride a bike without training wheels. He was very determined to succeed and, with some assistance and techniques on balance, he was able to achieve his goal. He mentioned the key to success was never giving up and the belief that he could accomplish the task at hand. It was a great day for him and for his Friend and Marcus couldn’t wait to show off for his brother and mother. Jill was adopted into her forever family and now has 3 sisters to share life with! Her Friend (Professional Mentor) was honored to be invited to all the celebrations. What an incredible joy it was to witness! Being a Friend means getting to stand alongside our children through ups and downs and to be a significant part of their lives. Evan explored the Manitou Penny Arcade and experienced new foods and activities with other program children. These type of adventures help children grow their ability to work with others and develop the skills to handle challenges they may face in the future.

We recently hosted our annual Back to School Bash to provide school supplies to the children and families that make up Friends of the Children - Colorado Springs. More than 30 people joined us for pizza and supplies, making it another successful kick-off for the new school year! Many thanks to our local Whataburger for providing many of the available supplies for the third year, and helping us host another great event! We're always excited to see our clubhouse full as we get ready for the new school year, and donations from individuals and organizations truly make it possible to accomplish great things!
