A team from our West Detroit market recently helped students with developmental disabilities at Friendship Circle of Michigan, which teaches essential life skills to people of all ages. A favorite activity among our team members was working on money management with the student customers, who were each given $12 to budget. Farmington Hills-based Gorman's Home Furnishings & Interior Design announced a partnership with three local nonprofit organizations dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities through the arts. Participating nonprofits organizations whose artists are participating include Soul Studio, a Division of Friendship Circle of Michigan, Paint a Miracle, and Progressive Art Studio Collective (PASC), a program of Services To Enhance Potential. This collaboration will be highlighted by an opening artists’ reception on the evening of July 31, at Gorman’s Southfield store and then artwork will be available for purchase in its Novi, Southfield, and Troy showrooms for the month of August. No cost to attend. Last week, artists from Soul Studio through the Friendship Circle of Michigan worked to create a mural on a pillar inside our new Community Commons. Yesterday, we hosted our first technology workshop in the new space. Our former computer lab is now a modernized multi-purpose community room! We are beyond grateful for all the time and effort that has gone into the renovations, including the generous bequest from the Ruth S. Elbling Trust and the generous gift by Jane Maximovich and Friends in memory of Dr. Alex Maximovich. Renovations were funded thanks to the support in memory of these dedicated West Bloomfield Library patrons. A few final touches remain, but we're excited to begin to use this space for programs.
